I don't know why it wouldn't work actually.

I don't think it would be all that hard to fab a tail mounted disk brake either. The rock-crawler 4x4 types use those types of E-brakes all the time...

I don't know why that wouldn't work. If all you're using it for is parking, it should. Since the pto engages the tranny, you would have to park it in gear, which only a fool parks a manual tranny rig in neutral, and then set the park brake. Use a caliper that is from the rear of a vehicle, and set it up to operate off a cable. If you run with the pto engaged, it could also almost be used like a tranny operated service brake too. The pto itself can run engaged all the time, if it's not attached to a pump or something. That would be an interesting set up. Hook the caliper up to the service brake lines, and then use the park brake feature for parking. Would be a way to make sure you have plenty of stopping power.

Checked your pics again, that is looking really good. I like how well the Cummins fits in there and it all looks just right.

+1 to that... looks great! I'm starting to wish I had gone with a Cummins instead of the Ford/IH IDI, but that's probably a 'grass is always greener' sort of thing.

What are you doing about your radiator? Using the stock F-550, rad from the donor, etc?

Thanks for the kind words. I used the 4core from mid fifty, 190 is the hottest its gotten so far and thats without a fan. Volume wise it took 5gal to fill the system, same as the f700. I still have the eaton 2sp 6.33/8.81 but I'm working on getting a dana 80 out of a step van with the six lug bud wheels and a 3.31 ratio. With that ratio and 9r22.5 tires i'll be able to drive 60mph at 1750rpm in direct in both trans. and still have an O.D. gear left to go.

Great thread and I am not able to add pics....still too stupid...haha
If you guys can add a few pics from my gallery....please do so!

I just took the box off my 56F600 and am reinstalling the original grain bed...but leaving the sides off.
I got tired of it being so high. I actually got wedged against my house.....not any more....and the marmon I had...F700 Was even bigger.....but was sold.
We brought a 56 F600 down from Mass.,and finally tore it apart...and so I have 2-3 nice sets of F600 1953-56 FENDERS if anyone is interested.
I buy most from THE SAME VENDORS ALREADY MENTIONED........GREAT THREAD!!!

Yeah,

That would probably be a cool truck.

I wonder what sort of problems there is finding wheels for them?

Are those some sort of rare wheel that's not made anymore?

Man, if that price is right I can see the line of guys heading to Tacoma, cash in hand.

It's hard to tell what wheels are on it from the pics, but according to the books F-900s used tubeless wheels. The book says 1956 F-900s are model QHS and had a variety of wheel options available in either Dayton or stud piloted Budd designs. The Budds are a 10 lug x 11.25" bolt pattern. These are listed new today in the Accuride on-line catalog. Here's the link: http://www.accuridewheels.com/studpilot.pdf . Daytons would also clearly be available new in a tubeless design.

The wheels that would be hard to find would be the tubeless 22.5" 8 lug x 10" circle style that were used on the F-750 and F-800s. This is the same pattern that was used going back to the 1948 F-7s and F-8s. Stu

Ok,

I'll say that if I didn't have my F-600 project in the garage, I would go up and buy it right now this minute!!

I spoke to the guy.

$275 is CORRECT. He bought it for the dump bed that was on the back. He drove it about a mile to where he's keeping it. He said the guy that had it before him had put a "crate motor" in it and only used it to haul gravel in his yard.

He said the engine is probably worth the $275 he wants for it.

I asked about rust and he said he really didn't look all that closely at it and it "probably has some rust" but he said he didn't think there were gaping holes in the floor or cab...

Someone will get a pretty cool truck. This would be a great project to put a PowerStroke or Cummins in!!

I am going to STOP looking at it.....(I may still go up there and get it!!!)

He said some guy is coming SAT to get it but he also said, "First Come, First Served"

I'm going to Stop now!!!!

Joe,

if you want that truck I suggest you pay for it via bank to bank transfer, PAYPAL etc... I. E. pay immediately.

I think there's a lot of people that want that truck.

As I said, It's "first come, first serve"

Good luck...

I suspect that there's a lot of people that just want the fenders, grill etc....
