Hello. I am trying to find out what my truck is rated to tow, and what I can safely and comfortably tow with it now. It is a 1992 F150, 5L, V8, 302, 2 wheel drive, 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive, standard cab with 8'box, 3.55 rear axle. It has a transmission cooler, heavy-duty rad, 6ply load range C tires, and an extra leaf spring. I have been towing a little two-horse tag-a-long trailer, but I really want to upgrade to either a wider and taller tag-a-long with a dressing room, or possibly even a two-horse gooseneck. I have tried to find out this truck's ratings with my local dealers, but no one seems to know. Also, a very important point: the truck has almost 165000 miles on it... but is in great shape, and is safetied every year, always maintained, etc. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. If you know the actual ratings for this truck for towing, I would love to know that as well.

 

Do you have the owner's manual? It will tell you in there. Iknow that by swapping engines & rear end ratios in mine it will now (according to the owner's manual) tow 1,000 pounds more than before.
