[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jun-02 AT 09:43 AM (EST)]Is this the only mod you have done ? Maybye i got a lemon but i own a 2002 (100% stock right now) and you cant get this one to spin. If i punch the accelerator from a dead stop it just takes off. No spin , screech or smoke. I can do the power brake thing and get it to spin , but it hooks up really fast even then. Does your 2001 have the bilstien shocks??Also what kind of tires are you running?

A 2000 red lightning stopped over yesterday. This guy is running mid 12's at the track on street tires with just a few mods. (chip, lower pulley, ram air/cold air intake, exhaust) What are you taching up to ?? Around 1100 is supposed to do the trick. If you are much above that and then dump it when the lights go green you probably will spin way into second gear. I do that every once just to light em up (street driving) But its definately not the best way to a low et.

i had it in low the first time and did a burn out.left it in low cause i for got to put it in drive before i left on the green.it went instantly to 6000 rpm.peged it ,befor i seen it and then i shifted it to drive.spun like hell in first and second, let off and got back on it again.bad deal.run a 87 mph in like 16 or so lol.oh well.so much for that i guess.it has a chip in it.from jdm.just a j49 is all nothing else.the best time i got there is 97 in 16 secs.kinda depressing.i thought these trucks were suppose to turn the high 13 in like 100 miles a hour stock?hell with the chip its in the 16 sec range at 97mph.2000 miles is all the miles thats on it now.what will slicks do for me?and where do i get them to fit my stock rims?and another thing,ya think i screwed something up by pegging the tack to 6ooo rpm before i shifted?hope not.it runs good still.no noise when ya start it no oil burning.hope its ok from that incedent.im even staying out of the water box.hell, the 5 0 mustangs i beat on the streets are beating me 4 car lengths on this track.i need traction.if i get traction with slicks what should i be running with a chip?

Yeah i definately wouldnt run it into 6000 rpm zonecheck out the popular mechanics site and look up test drives i think it was "fastest vehicles in the world" the lightning was in it and they were talking about best way to get a low et at the track.I ran mine on the street at about 1200 rpm holding the brake then punching it and letting off the brake at the same time. It took off like a rocket. Try that next time. You can get it to hook up on these tires. Id master that before i worried about slicks. Even at a bad track you should be running a lot faster than that if you do it right.

Your first problem is your mileage - your just starting to break-in at 2000k. My 2001 WOKE UP at around 2500-3000 miles. Also try lowering your tire pressure to 20psi left rear - 18-19psi right rear. You gotta peddle these trucks at the starting line or you'll spin like mad which = drastically reduced ET. I'm installing a few more mods before I run at the track - but with my two nephews (an extra 315LBS!!)on board & a G-Tech Pro, we ran consistant 12.8s with about ten feet of tire spin and a best 0-60 of 4.7 secs! Remove the two lead weights from the front seat and we're talking 12.6 or better.

The best way to prevent spinning is to get a good set of drag rims and tires and add Rancho Bars.
I had alot of trouble getting traction off the line and would feel like I was on the "high seas" when I would start spinning.
I finally broke down and bought a set of after market rims permitting me to run the widest tire I could on the rear and then only recently install a set of Rancho bars.
I now, for the first time in a LONG time, ran three passes very cosistent ; 14.016, 14.017 and another 14.016
I have not added a power adder yet and hope to have the problems of traction gone by time I do.
good luck
