So is that the filter that Mikey2000 has picture of in post? If so is it a contained unit you replace?

Looks like the last external filters may have been used in 03/07 built date trucks. Bowstring has a 04/07 build date and his dosn`t have it either, does anybody else have build dates of 04/07 without one.

Just to clarify on the part numbers...

Early build with external/remote filter...

External/Remote Filter: Ford 7C3Z-7B155-B / Motorcraft FT-176

Internal Filter/Screen: Ford 3C3Z-7A098-AA / Motorcraft FT-144

Late(r) build without external/remote filter...

Internal High Efficiency Filter/Screen: Ford 8C3Z-7A098-D / Motorcraft FT-180

Note... FT-175 was supersceded by FT-179 which was finally superseded by the most current FT-180...

Thanks for the part numbers. I have the external plumbed in filter and have had trouble finding a part number for it.

For those that are going to change their own external/remote filter... You need a transmission line disconnect tool to do it. If you do not have one you can order it directly from Motorcraft for a not too outrageous price (see link below). Part number 307-459...

SPX Motorcraft | Detail

The tool is supplied by OTC who is the supplier of Ford Special Service Tools (see link below). OTC part number 6593...

I couldn't find the tool locally, but unscrewed the old fittings & re-used since the o-rings looked good. Changed my filter last weekend. Couple hundred miles now, no leaks.

I'm hearing this tool doesn't really work anyway? I hate to spend the money if it doesn't do anything. I appreciate any suggestions for the future changeouts.
