Hey guys! So today I got a wrecked 2002 f-350 7.3 short box crew cab in my shop and I noticed it had a one piece rear driveline instead of having the carrier bearing. I thought all these superdutys had the carrier bearing? Truck only has 60,000 miles on it. Not sure if it was aluminum or not. Any advantage to that?
That's odd. Can you post a pic? Just so we can be nosey?
Yeah I could do that, its actually all bent cus he ran over a bunch of rocks, bashed the front end all up, smashed all the coolers and steering and everything, not totalled though so we will be fixing it.

That a lot of damage. Sound like you have your work cut out for you Adam.
Does it look like there was a driveshaft support bearing in there before?
Thats sad 60K and the truck is off roading and getting bashed to pieces. That is odd though since your trucks are basicly the same thing it could just be the wheel base I have never payed attention to my driveline. Is the truck lifted any?
not a good combo running a strait long shaft like that...its most likly twisted and bent cause the guy was trying to get un stuck..a 2 piece shaft is much stonger..the only advantage to a log shaft is its cheaper to make..
My OBS is a single shaft with a short box and extended cab. Funny thing is the short cab lond box has a carrier. Almost exactly the same wheel base but two driveline setups.
IMO the short boxes get the straight shaft. Not sure though.
I am pretty si=ure our Ex has a single shaft also. I will have to look though.
I think that there is a theoretical design limit on how long a single stretch of driveline should be run.
Ever looked at a big box truck with a long wheel base?
They have 3 or 4 carrier bearings and a bunch of 4 foot sections of driveline.
