Brake Problem and Check Engine Light

99’ F-150, 5.4 V8, about 160,000

Recent Work
- Passenger side door and passenger bed body were repaired due to collision
- Brake lights were not working due to a loose connection in the MFS
- Local Shop did an oil change. (I didn’t have a place to do it myself)
- Replaced front brake pads.

I live in the Rockies above 9,000 ft. I drove to Denver (about 5,000ft.) the other day and my brakes needed to be replaced so I replaced them at my Uncles house. I’m not expert on brakes but I’ve done them a few times before without any issues.

When I was compressing the piston on the front left there was a popping sound and a little fluid came from under the boot. I hoped it wasn’t anything major. Next we were bleeding the brakes and we didn’t fill the reservoir soon enough and it ran dry. It was just one of those days. We ended up bleeding about another small bottle of fluid through the system. I don’t remember exactly what the brakes felt like before but it seems like they were a little spongier after. When the truck is off there is plenty of presser. When it’s running in park you can push it almost to the floor. When I’m driving I barely have to touch it and I stop just fine. I have also been checking the fluid before and after every trip and have not lost any fluid. The truck doesn’t pull at all so I think both sets of pads are working. The other issue with the brakes is when I stop there is a dull thud from the front left. The same side where there was a popping sound and the fluid.

And last but not least when I first started my truck after changing the brakes the check engine light came on. I don’t think this is related to the brakes. I hooked up the code scanner and this is what I got.
