well yesterday i was goofin off at the chevy-yard(junkyard) and ran across an suburban with a nice westin brush gaurd so i ripped it off (had to snap the bolts off cause im 5'6" and 160lbs of bad a$$ lol)<that was a joke.anyway i pulled it off it also had 4 lights 2 halogen and 2 amber colored lights all in a box in the center.all for $15.couldnt pass it up so i had to do some cutting and welding up some new brackets and from start to finish including wiring it took me 3 hours to make a chevy guard fit a ford.im just happy it went so smooth,so i figured i would brag a little.ill post pics soon

I have a "ho-made" winch bumper on my Dodge diesel and it turned out to be "center-of-mass" on a forked-horn mule deer.
They bounce off rather than go over or under.
I'm sure all of the truck drivers already knew this but those weird "spray patterns" you see on the highway are where a deer "popped" when it was hit just right by something fast and hard. (Get your mind out of the gutter!)
The one I hit just left a bunch of blood, hair and feces in my fender well and up the driver's side. NOTE!: get this "stuff" cleaned off FAST! My truck still has a faint stain on it if you know where to look. I was on my way deer hunting and didn't take the time to clean it off for about a week. I wore it as a "badge of honor" the whole hunting season; DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My wife was with me and we'd just gotten married 3-4 months before. After that whenever we went somewhere and my wife would say "watch out for deer" I'd just say "why?"
I'm suprised after those statements one didn't come barreling out of the ditch and plow right into the side of me.
I hope I never hit a COW with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hit a decent size black bear at about 20 MPH with a 4" channel-iron bumper in my *****'s pick-up when I was in high school and I almost came to a STOP! And the bear got up and ran off!
The welds where I notched the steel to bend the ends back and welded it back up broke on the one side where I hit the bear.
Them bruins are SOLID!

I've got a homemade bumper on my rig made out of drill stem (for those who don't know what this is, its roughly 4.5'' pipe with 1/2 (sometimes even thicker) sidewall) mounted with 1/2'' mounting brackets, and then a normal everyday grille guard welded onto the drillstem.
A word from experience don't decide to take it off by yourself. It'll drop in the floor and you'll never be able to pick it up again.
I hit a hog runnin 55 and it just was like a meatgrinder.

I worked with a guy that had a '76 F-250 that was lifted with a winch bumper.
We came around a corner in Eastern Oregon and there was a heard of deer in the road, no way to stop. He just picked one out of the crowd and hit it square in the face with the roller fair lead.
It mostly went under the truck and you could hear it hitting everything on the under carriage.
It was also very meat grinder like. Chunks everywhere. The 300 mile drive home was very odiferous.

I'm looking to build up a stout bumper come spring/summer. I know a guy pretty well who runs a machine shop and does a lot of work for us at the place I work, and he has a CNC cutter. Since I use Autocad every day, I could mock up a bumper, draw up the plates I need, and send them over to him and he could cut them out for me Which would be schweet to say the least.
I'm hoping to design a plate bumper of some sort with a built in grille guard.
