MY IDM140 Pics
I did this earlier today today thanks to Cookie88 for the resistors. Much smoother idle with easier start. Turbo seems to spool faster and definitely whistles a lot louder at an idle. And me and the guy who works with me both noticed a difference in acceleration. I had a 100v IDM so if ya'll already have the 110v's your changes might not be as drastic as mine.
Heres the pics along the install, sorry for the quality, pics were taken from my blackberry:
This is the stock IDM just opened up.
The resistor saying 6042 is the one to be removed, I stuck my pocket knife under it while hitting each side with the soldering iron.
Here is a pic with the stock resistor removed
This is the new resistor installed. I did not have to add solder, used what was currently there. May not be the same for everyone.
Here is the IDM sealed up and ready to put in truck
Additional notes: UNPLUG GROUNDS BEFORE TOUCHING IDM CONNECTION. To open IDM lid, I used a painters 5in1 for prying and a slotted screwdriver to hold it open. The inside board is covered in a silicone spray, Lowes sells a brush on electrical coating for waterproofing and arc eliminating. I recomend using this. Seal it back up with RTV silicone and youre good to go.

I have got to do this mod.
Keep hearing good results form everyone who has done it. Just a little leery because I had an IDM go bad a couple years ago and the dealer put one in. About $800 IIRC. Had to booger it up.
But now I m wondering if they put a one in that is stock for my '97 or if the new one is a higher voltage.
Anyone know how to tell the voltage just by looking at the box?

I just started looking into doing the same mod, but I can't find the right resistor. The article in the DieselPower mag I have says that with the IDM110 you need to use a 75k ohm 1/2W 1% tolerance metal film resistor, which I can't find at Radio Shack or on ebay. If this is the correct resistor, can anyone help me find one? Thanks

check out here for the resistor

You are very welcome.
I've got 8 of the 73.2K (for converting IDM120) left and I think 16 of the 75K. Giving them away for the asking. All I need is a PM with a name and mailing address.

The stock injector solenoids are only rated for 160v, so keeping it a decent amount below that keeps them healthy.
