Cool Clutch - Which brand internal Slave Cylinder

Well - it would appear that based on searches, the internal slave cylinder is a common fail part. I have a 92-96 model F250 with the internal slave, and I think cold weather contributed to it's failure. Appears to be leaking fluid and the clutch pedal sticks to the floor.

I'm seeing the same symptoms that this thread suggested: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ld-clutch.html

So a few questions - is there a recommended replacement - what manufacturer is best?

What other parts should I replace? I'm thinking about getting the full kit with the cylinders, flywheel, throwout bearing and clutch plate. I think I read a thread that suggested upgrade to an 11" clutch plate from the 10".

Any suggestions appreciated.

I go with Ford only. It appears as they've redesigned them as the replacements look slightly different and there's a new part number on them. And they're not a whole lot more expensive than one from a parts store.

Get a ford part for this. They updated their slave cylinder recently. I had to get on for my m5r2 tranny and they were the same price as other brands at the parts stores. Drain the old brake fluid out and use synthetic to replace it.

how do I tell it is the 'updated' vs. an older one?

Thanks for the replies - Is there a feature I can visibly identify to tell that I got an updated version of the part, and not older inventory?

After experiencing after market parts for the hydraulic clutch on my nissan maxima, go to the dealer and get the pieces from them, or at least to motorcraft parts dealer. The dealer should have the updated version, but Numbersdummy could tell or anyone with the parts catalogs handy.

Any recommendations on what synthetic brake fluid to use? Does it matter - or just a reputable brand that's synthetic DOT3?

I really want to minimize the need to do this internal slave again. Wish there was an external conversion

Thanks.

With regards to the clutch, I would highly recommend Clutchmasters. They are a one-owner shop that has been building clutches for 30+ years. I have personnaly been purchasing clutches from them for 25 years for all types of applications including trucks, cars, and racing applications and street rods. There assemblies always work the first time, and last! They sell outright or rebuild your unit with typical 24 hour turn-around (or a couple of hours if you stand there and wait).267 E. This is a great opportunity to repair or remedy a few things while the transmission is on the floor.
1. Get the dealer specified clutch components (all of them)
2. Inspect rear main seal for leaks, seepage
3. Great opportunity to replace u-joints while the shafts are down
4. Upgrade to synthetic fluid

An ounce of prevention.....
