OEM Conti's in the snow?

I'm going to be going through the first winter with my '06 350. I don't drive it too much in the snow, but when I do I need it to go. I'll be plowing with it too.

I'm looking at these Contis that came with the truck and saying to myself "Those do NOT look like a good tire in the snow!" But I'm not looking forward to spending $1000 on tires, so I'm wondering - are these Contis as bad in the snow as they would appear to be?

I had them on my 2000, not 100% sure if they where the same tread as yours but I can tell you that they were pretty helpless on damp grass let alone snow. couple of sprinkles and it was time to lock it in 4x4, snow I didn't even bother trying. but I did get over 50,000 miles out of them.

I'm thinking that when my truck has 50K miles on it these Contis will still have plenty of tread - 'cause they won't be on the truck, they'll be in the back of the barn...

I ran them last year through a MA winter.. and they were ok. They are not a confidence inspiring tire on anything past a dry highway.

I plowed with them for two winters and they were awful, but they carried me through. I replaced them at about 40k with Coopers and I couldn't be happier. They weren't tooooo bad for the first 20k, but after that they went down hill fast.

I'm still running them on my 06. They pretty much suck other than on dry pavement. I however do not run my truck a whole lot in the winter so I have been living with them. I am however getting really sick of all the stones they pick up and throw at my paint. I'm at 20,000 miles now and plan on replacing them next year.

IMHO they are worse than they appear...I drove the end of last winter on them, and I won't make that mistake again this winter, darn right scary!!! Like othere say they get stuck in wet grass and add snow and or ice forget it. Spend the money. I am still researching the best all around AT tires to replace them that will handle the snow and ice up here in Northern NY!!! We have already had snow twice 7" plus

I agree with what has been said about the Conti Craps..

They are good on dry pavement, but that's all..

I was stuck with them on my 06 and plow some driveways in the winter..

They will be ok as long as you drive respectfully.. I don not go fast in them even though I have 4 wheel drive.. They will slip out from under you in no time if yoiu give them the chance..

If you have the cash then by all means dump those suckers and never look back...

The only reason I still have them is I don't have $1200.00 to get the Cepek FCII's I want..

I wouldn't put these tires back on even in the summer, because when the pavement is wet watch out..

My 2 cents

I will be going with the cooper Discovery SST's in Jan, just before we start having any chance of real snow so I will have a set of 5 only 4500 miles on them for sale

Run, do not walk, to the nearest dealer of Cooper Discover or Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour tires. The Conti's are terrible in the snow, and worse if you plan to plow.

The Continentals came off my 2007 F-350 before I put 50 miles on it
I got credit trading them in, but my tire dealer still has them on the rack 18 months later, LOL.

36,000 miles on my Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Pro Grades so far. The Silent Armor tires kick butt in the rain and snow.
