Uncatalized sealer

My last post really didn't make since so I'm going to try again.

i sprayed nason 422-23 acrilic sealer on my hood.It is a 1k non sanding sealer. The day after i sprayed the sealer I scratched my nail over the sealer, and my nail dug it.The paint didn't chip off,it was just soft.

Is a 1k acrilic sealer supposed to be soft for the first few days or did i screw up something?

P.S. I sanded the hood with 400 grit then cleaned it with a wax and grease remover,so i did prep it correctly before i sprayed it.

Hi , I had a similar thing happen to me a couple of yrs ago . I'm from the old school as far as body work goes and try not to use sealer unless there is a problem ie paint lifting , bondo bleed through etc . Anyways what you need to do is go to the jobber ( paint store ) that sold you the sealer and explain what is going on . It will be my guess that they will tell you to lightly scuff the sealer with a red scotch brite pad then apply a 2part expoxy primer over the sealer . Then when the primer dries you will be able to sand it and apply your paint . If you have any major defects that show up like the hand print or gouges after sanding the primer you may have to use what they call icing to fill the defect and reapply more primer to that area . . What type of paint will you be using for a topcoat bc/cc or enamel? If you using an enamel you should be able to get good results with sanding the primer with 320 however if your using bc/cc you will most likely want to use 600 and in some cases even finer depending on the manufactures requirements . I have sprayed everything from lacquer up through to the bc/cc . And have found that almost every time that sealer is really not required for a paint job that you will be putting on a vehicle that will be a driver, a show vehicle is another game in itself . I hope this helps if you need any more info don't be affraid to ask even the best painters out there have a paint job that bites them in the butt at one time or another.
