Classic Songs That Grab The Heart
***READ FIRST***
1. PLEASE post only ONE song.
2. PLEASE attach video so others can enjoy.
3. I picked one from the 70s...(great song decade).....You might choose another.
4. Any style. Pop, Rock, Country.......Whatever.
Post a song and video that really grabs you. Maybe it's a song that just has a combo of lyrics and harmonics that touch the heart or the mind....Or maybe it's a song that sticks in your head because it was notable to you at a certain time in your life. C'mon, y'all know what I'm talking about here....A song that comes on and you just want everyone around you to shut the hell up 'til it's finished......(haha).
Here's my pick. A classic band (and song) with a tragic storyline (screwed over by management.....2 suicides......). They were once known as 'Beatles Light', and were being groomed by McCartney and Lennon.
Badfinger. The song is 'Day after Day'....
YouTube - Badfinger - Day After Day - Pete Ham
I don't know, guys and gals....This one is haunting.....I usually wouldn't pick a 'live' performance, but I think the vocals (lead AND backup) really kick *** in this version.
If you have a song/group....The chances are, youtube HAS it.....
Enjoy
***P.S. AGAIN.....Just ONE SONG Please***.....(someones going to jump in with a list of about 20 songs---I just KNOW it.......).

The Stones, "Gimme Shelter".
YouTube - Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
This song has always been my favorite tune of all time. The guitar line floating in and out, Merry Clyaton's legendary background vocal, and the way the song has a sense of urgency to it just pulls you in. It doesn't hurt that all of us have felt like we needed to find some shelter at one point or another. I know I have.

YouTube - Long Hauls and Close Calls by Hank III - Hellbilly version
Not quite a classic yet, but it will be some day. Yes that is Hank Williams the third.
I picked that video mostly because it reminds me of about every weekend of my younger life. Lots of beer, a few babes, but mostly me and buddies playing with our trucks in the mud.

Jake....Good one....LOTS of nostalgia in that song...
Scott......OH yeah!!!...
Jimbo......That's pretty much how I pictured you.....(hahahahaha)......
Oh yeah...On edit...The SONG I picked wasn't about bad management and suicide of band members.....That was the fate of the band......Sad......

Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here
YouTube - Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here (live)
Gilmour & Waters' tribute to former band mate Syd Barrett.
Fun song to play on the guitar too.

The first thing that came to mind was actually MarshallTucker Band's "Fire on the Mountain," but after thinking about it a little, I think this one hits everyone close to home:
YouTube - That Smell...Lynyrd Skynyrd
Yes, that was Johnny singing, but he does justice the his brother's memory.
(it was hard not to post Freebird Live-1977)

You're right, Ronnie's not there but Johnny does a good job.

Moving along nicely.....Thanks....
Tom....Glen's a GREAT choice....
Bryyce.....Got drunk to other Floyd songs---not that one.....
Stu....Thanks for bringing up another great band with a tragic history....Great songs too. Grand-daddies of 'Southern' Rock.
*If this keeps going like it is....(and I hope to hell it does)......We who have already chosen can make another choice. Let's see how many others come along first......
I just didn't want a single post to include 20+ songs.....You know, stealing the thunder from those who didn't choose yet.....

Old Shep.
YouTube - OLD SHEP. THE VERY FIRST SONG I EVER SANG
I prefer the Red Foley version, but can't find a video of it.

With my Dad's health failing, this song 'grabs' me.
Even though I've never really been a fan of Conway Twitty, but this song just gets to me.
