I made this to explain to someone the different drivetrain configurations in our trucks, and I thought maybe it would be useful to some of you guys.

I'm keeping the one I have, but I have seen a few in the junkyards. One even had a PTO winch and a wrecker body. Lots of F600's and F500's will have them.

Thanks for the education! Not having a 4x4 truck (though I do have a 4 x 4 GMC Jimmy), I always wondered what the difference was between a "divorced" and "standard" set up. After seeing your diagram it makes perfect sense! Points given..

question on the divorced transfer case:

since the divorced case sits farther back does that mean the shifter on the inside of the cab sits farther back?

 

No. It does not. The shifter moves linkage that runs back to the case.

Thanks for the education. I too was curious about the devorced trans. Out of the 4 trucks Ive had Im happy to say Ive never had one. Me and the Mrs. are still together too. Points wil be given.

Updating an old thread. I've had a lot of people asking what a double transfer case setup is, and what it even does. I hope this diagram helps.

It gives an additional selectable low range, by using a hi / lo range section from a transfer case in front of a transfer case.

 

I am waiting for someone to say that there front drive shaft comes straight out there xfer case, not at a angle like your diagram, lol.

Nice job BTW, and FYI "standard" is sometimes referred to as "married" just to help out.

 

Diagram is pretty close, the NP205 has that angle to it. But the BW1356 is a little straighter

 

My transfer case isn't green either.
