I havn't had any luck (money probs') getting to go, sence I found out about it 3 years ago.

Is it really as fun as it looks to be?

suggestions for a famliy of four to do?
(Me,Wife,Kids_son-9,daugter-8.)

If able to go, will stay at hotel.
(kids too hyper to camp with.)

You cab post in that chapter also. You just can't become a member of another state chapter.

There is someone on the Ky chapter who goes but I haven't seen a post from him in a while.

You lucky devil. Wish I was going with you. I run through that area twice a week. Out at Oak Ridge there is the Museum of Science and Energy. It would probably be a hoot for the kids. Down south of Seveirville, there are tons of things to do. One thing I do know about, if you take I-40 to Exit 407 (on the East side of Knoxville), and go south, there is the Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville. It'll take you about 15 to 20 minutes to get down there. Its on your right.

Heck, I'd run a search online and see what I could come up with.

Whenever I manage to get enuff saved I'll go.
It's just that, for 3 years I lost my fundings to paying bills/unforseen events.
But this dosn't mean I've given up.

Hey Crazedfox, i been goin' since about '92. It is a pretty good time, though I have to say it was better in Pigeon Forge. If you don't mind drivin a little there are quite a few things to do in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area (I've been going there as long as I can remember.) In the Knoxville area I don't really know of a whole lot outside of the Knoxville zoo (it's right next door) but you could call the tourist office. The Muscle Car Museum is Well worth checking out, we usually spend about 1 1/2 to 2 hours in there.

 

I was there in 2008, and as y'all can see, I don't live in KY.

The swap meet was dead as the dodo bird on Thursday at 7:30AM...light misty rain, very few peeps walking around, hardly any sellers open, but...

In SoCal, when dawn breaks, it's standing room only at any of these meets.

There were a few real hard to find NOS goodies, but what surprised me was...very few peeps seemed to know what parts fit their trucks.

I met two guys from TN who had some nice NOS stuff at their swap spaces, one was an NOS RED 3 spoke steering wheel for a 1964/70 F100/350.

Even though it was clearly marked as to what it fit, peeps kept asking, will that fit my truck?

There were a pair of NOS 1967/72 Stainless Western mirrors on the table...they sat there for two days, before some guy bought them...for 50 bucks, a roaring bargain.

btw: Don't bother looking for the steering wheel in 2009...I bought it.

I wooda bought the mirrors if no one else had bought them...cuz out here, these mirrors are impossible to find in any condition, and will bring between $150.00-$200.00.

NOS obsolete parts are getting harder to find every day...If you snooze, you lose!

I realize this show compare to the ones out west are lacking in both swap meet parts and level of vehicles. But for a novice like me its seem like heaven...
But I beleive with us now having a supernationals in May and the f100 show in June actully in Pigeon forge, it will either bring in more selection or hurt.
My biggest lost last year was missing the oppurtunity to me "Number Dummy" in person, I miss that chance by 2.5 hrs. my lost..

Sorry to have missed you too, Mitch.

The seller of the wheel packed up and left Friday night. He called me Saturday AM and said "I still have it...if you want it."

I drove over to the motel he was staying at (located N of the Strawberry something or other offramp), and snagged it for a little less than the asking price of 2 C's.

btw: The only reason I went to the Nats was to attend the swapmeet. Out here, the same used crappola is seen over and over again, and NOS parts are almost non existant...except for vehicles that no one cares a hoot about.

We also visited the "War for the Southern Confederacy" battlefields located near Chattanooga (Chicamauga & Lookout MT.), and drove parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway we had missed on several earlier trips.

I did attend a swap met in Evansville Indiana called (34th annual I beleive of "Frog Follies" last August) its a pre 48 show, but a pretty good swap met area; got a am radio for my 64 model for only 10 bucks, they go alot higher on e- bay etc.
I'm learning more and more about these trucks thru this web site and folks like you; finding great finds & friends daily.

 

The fellow that had the wheel and the mirrors had a used 1965/66 sweep speedo cluster with the speedo and all the gauges intact including the optional amp and oil pressure gauges: 25 BUCKS!

I didn't even argue the price, I grabbed it...but didn't have it long.

Several minutes later in front of the Judge Building, a fellow (he turned out to be FTE member BarryMc from TN) walked up to me and said... "Are you NumberDummy?!"

You coulda knocked me over with a feather.. "How the hell did you know me?" I asked him.

He said it was the Hawaiian shirt I was wearing and the fact my mug is plastered in several SoCal Chapter forum GTG pics.

I sold it to him, cuz he needed it...I didn't.

btw: Two weeks in TN, SC, NC, and GA...I never saw anyone else wearing an Hawaiian shirt.

 

I remember you mentioning that the key thing to look for or determine you would be a Hawaiian shirt on a 6'5'' or so frame.
I would love to fit into my Hawaiian shirts, but since returning back to the lower 48's in 98 I've out grown them some how? Hmmm

And I wish I found that speedo for 25 big ones.

 

The fellow I bought it from was from Lewisburg, TN.

He had another complete used sweep speedo cluster without the optional oil/amp gauges: 20 BUCKS!

He took it home with him...so he may still have it. Sorry, I don't have his name.
