Question Chassis Saver question

I don't know why I was thinking that I could use it without prep. I was going through old posts and found where I had asked and it needed to do prep. So I do.

I was told that if you use POR 15 you can just brush it on and as it dries the streaks that you see will go away. I decided to go with chassis saver instead. If is brush it on will it come out with the same smooth appearance? I really would like to avoid spraying it because I am using an extremely small garage and would have to do one side, move the truck over to the other side of the garage, and then paint the other side. But if that is what I have to do to make it look good, I'll do it.

So, has anyone painted the chassis saver with a brush???

I have been in your shoes. I used a sponge-brush--like what you use on mouldings in your house on the frame and it leaves less marks and no bristles come out.
I have done many frames and use chassis saver the most.
It is very easy to use and spread the c.s. on a clean frame like you are painting something really smooth.
I mean....be careful ...watch for runs and dirt and clean very good before you start. And...do NOT get any on you.....or it will be there till 09......HAHA!!! Bill

how much paint do you need to do chassis and engine compartment. I was planning on doubling the amount to include the silver primer. also how much thinner would you need
thanks

Walford, I could handle it being there until 2009. It's only 11 days away. What if I were to wait until the 30th. It'd only be 2 days it would stick on me. maybe I should do that!!! haha.

I never thought about a sponge brush. That makes sense. I got it sandblasted, so it should be pretty clean. The rearend that I'm putting on wasn't sandblasted. But when I was reading about the paint, it said to just ensure that there wasn't any excessive dirt on the metal you're painting. So I do need to do a little prep for it. Thanks.

Marc, I don't know how much you'll need. I read someone's blog a while back and he was saying that he had a gallon and did the whole chassis and still had some left over. I ordered a gallon (plus a little thinner to store the leftovers). I'm not sure how long it will take me to get to it, but I will let you know how much I had left over once I get it done. But it could be next year sometime. I still have just a little more welding to do before I am ready to paint. Maybe someone else could answer you faster.

I only buy c.s. in quarts--and I do this because if you ever used it before--it uses the air to form a seal against rust and it seals the lid of the can terribly. I use saran-wrap over the lid to get the lid off,and clean edge of the lid perfectly.
Use only what you need at that time......you will know what I mean if you don't--haha!!!
I used the silver on my frame and then epoxy over that and then urthane over that...so it might last longer than me!! LOL
A gallon will go a long way!! Bill
