Question Induction or Nitriding?

Which process did Ford use for hardening the crankshafts from the factory?

Nitriding is pretty rare, usually only on racing or other limited production specials, like the supercharged 3.8 in the '90's T-bird. I just had a Chevy Corvair crank nitrided for my aircraft engine conversion. GM did it only for the turbocharged ones.

Yeah I wouldn't doubt some of the higher performance would use a hardening process for longer lasting parts. So you are saying the crankshafts from the factory were hard enough to resist wearing out prematurely without using a hardening process? or I should say an *additional process to further the resistance capability*
