repost Bought a Money Pit

I will stick with the short story Yea Right, Got 1986 E350 460 with Air/Smog & EGR system. Had a broken exhust bolt on left side of head, Going to replace head and reinstall headers and remove stock exhaust and i want to leave off Smog and Air Pump and EGR. My question is on the intake do i install the stock gasket and let the exhaust dead head in to the intake or instll a new intake gasket the blocks the return to the intake.
Any ideals on Stock crab or upgrade it.

Thanks
Eddie

You'll probably want to replace the EGR spacer with one that's about the height. This will keep the cables happy. The stock carb is probably in need of a rebuild but there is no need to replace it.

You need to keep the exhaust flow through the intake. It crosses from one side to the other and provides a heat source for the choke.

The choke's electric, but the crossover does help vaporize raw fuel in a cold motor.

Eddie,
A lot depends on what you want from the engine, which are you looking at?
Weiand Stealth and Edelbrock Performer's are pretty close to stock, but will probably save you 40 lbs over the cast iron one.

An issue I could see in a van is clearance on top with anything higher.
(don't know...)

There are block off plates, or solid spacers if you want to loose the EGR, but expect some tuning.
