How to get black smoke on my 7.3idi diesel?

Turning the whole injection pump will just change the timing. You are better off just playing with the adjustment screws on the pump. I would write down the stock settings though so you can put it back where it was if you ever want to.

I have a 1989 F-350 with stacks and it makes black smoke like no tomorrow when I want it to especially.
If you want black smoke then you should....
Add a turbo
Get rid of the muffler
Turn up the Injector Pump Screw 1 flat
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, GET AN EGT GUAGE
Im all with you on the black smoke, but you can melt your pistons with too much fuel when your EGTs reach 1200-1250 degrees F.

rolling coal out your stacks
I couldnt get my stacks to smoke ether on my 2000 f350. But as soon as i got my ts performance chip put in it rolls smoke now. And i can control it by changing the setting. At stock its a little slogish and slow with zero smoke even when pulling a heavy load. At the 140 + setting it is like a 7000 thousand pound mustang lol and rolls the smoke out of the stacks when your on it. I love how it looks comin out going down the road. And if you want even more smoke you can do stage one injecters.

Thanks from bringing up a 6 year old DEAD thread
Your truck has NOTHING in common with the OP so you really added Nothing helpful
Also, blowing smoke is BAD not only for the environment, it is bad for diesel motorsports in general

You have a 90' so its got a manual Stanadyne pump, no electronics or any of that **** half these idiots are saying, my uncle had a few and the beater he cranked the pump and did some head work and ran it till the crank blew, as for smoke I have a 02 7.3 chipped and it DOES NOT smoke. Why? because im not 14 and my dick isn't tiny. My buddy has a 95 12v smokes like crazy but my PS always destroys him by a mile. So Smoke = no power, wasted fuel, tiny man syndrome.

I saw stacks with propane nozzles nicely set to throw
a modest foot of flame at the push of a button.
Right up there with magnesium skid plates on rigs that can lower to the ground and throw a few feet of sparks.
Sparks and flames?
Why does none of that sound good or safe in any way?
or maybe it was just roadrunner cartoon flashbacks.
Either way, I apologize for no usable information.
