Temperature gauge

I'm going nuts, my 88 F259 came from factory with a water temperature gauge, but whenever I get in the truck the needle is right on the C but the moment I turn the truck on it goes directly to the left of it all the way and there it will stay until the truck is shuts off. I have replaced the temperature sensor by the thermostat is there a different on for the gauge? or what could my problem be?

Dash gauges have thier own sensors... the water temp gauge is on the front of the lower intake drivers side on the small V8's.

Wow...would you mind telling me where it is located on the 300 Six? My guage is doing the exact same thing.

I really appreciate this, and will do so--great (old) thread!

My temp guage does the same thing, but does work sometimes. So its called the temperature guage sensor? Is it something that is easy to see, or do I really have to look?

My temp guage worked just fine today on the way home. Go figure. I will replace the sender thing and see what that does. Thanks.

subford,

Thanks again for the link. However, that appears to be a pre-EFI 300-6 in the photo, right? And I cannot seem to find that sensor on the passenger side of the block, rear, which that shot appears to depict. Admittely, I have a shoulder injury which prevents me from crawling around much, but is it possibly located elsewhere on an EFI six?

Thanks,

BigSix

My gauge was doing the same thing. Went to check the sending unit and when I pulled the connector the guts came out. had to drill it and helicoil it.
