Need help in determining what type of leaf spring susp. I have.
Specs: 1985 F-150 4.9L C6 3.55
Although I have an F-150 I am quite sure I don't have the leaf springs from a stock F-150. The truck sits pretty high in the rear and pretty low in the front. I guess what I'd like to know is, is it an F-250 setup? I have a picture of the truck and springs in my Gallery. Or did the guy who owned it before me, just toss on a few more springs for a better load rating?
Reason being is that the front end is just to darned low and I was thinking about putting on some F-250 springs to level it out. Plus I want to run a 31x10.50x15 tire with a decent fender gap.

if your truck is 2wd then that would explain some of it, but the spring pack definatly looks like it has some extra springs in there. the farmer you bought it from probably did put F-250 springs on there to handle extra heavy loads of feed or what have you.

Wow, I think you're a little higher than stock in the back as well. I know Skyjacker and Superlift both make 2" leveling coils for the front that may help you even things out some. Those new coils were about $120, but after I put mine in, the must-have front end alignment job cost me $250 (ouch!) I would imagine you'd run into the same alignment problem if you got the springs from an F-250, providing they are in fact taller. How does your truck ride? Have you considered taking a leaf or two out? Good luck!

Believe it or not, here in Hawaii, not a lot of places can handle, or know a lot about big trucks (yes , F-150s are big to them)so to pay for "experiance and know-how" it costs. Not to mention the cost of new camber bushings. Not only do you have to pay for parts and labor, you got to pay for the part's boat ride, the boat's gas, the captains gas, the harbor master's gas, etc., etc. Things are expensive over here. Can't wait to get back to good ole southern USA. In another post a guy put the same 2" leveling springs on his truck (don't recall where he was from) but his alignment job cost him about $175. Guess it depends on where you're at and who you know.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-May-02 AT 01:46 AM (EST)]How's the ride?? Well on the big bumps it bucks. It's not uncontrollable by any means but it will surprise you if you aren't watching what you are doing. The front is soft and squishy but the back is not as harsh as I thought it would be. Nothing like when I was in highschool and had a 1973 Ford Torino with 255x60x15's and airshocks maxed. You do feel like you are leaning forward just a bit or kinda like you are going to slide out of the seat. We loaded two big pallets of bricks in the back a few months ago and she leveled out just nicely. It's the best it has ever rode.
I want to leave the springs in and just raise the front. I was thinking about going with a 4" lift but I just don't know how much lift I have in the rear already. The tires are 235x75x15 and I want to run a 31x10.5x15. I was checking my Haynes and Chilton manuals and it showed a drawing of a stock F-150 with only 2 or maybe 3 leaves. The F-250 had a few more but those drawings are never fully accurate.
Anybody know what the difference in height is between the F-150 and F-250 springs?
This truck has been the best $600.00 I have spent yet.
