Not to brag but i have a 1992 f250 hd with 460 big block, its 2 wheel drive, E40D, 3.55's supercab, longbox, towing package, 235/85r16 tires. I am currently averaging 14.5 mpg with 20-30% city driving. The best of 15.6 on mainly highway at 82 mph with the a/c on. When i first got it i had started out with like 10mpg. So i put a tonneau cover on and redid my shot exhaust from the flange back to a 3" inlet to dual 2.5" outlet thrush glasspack and added a pipe that pointed downward after 27". I removed the cat cause it sucks power and mileage. I believe that the $750 bucks i had spent to improve my mileage might have paid for itself in the past 6-7 months. I am hoping to get 20 out of it one day in the near future.

that not true. I know one guy have 2004 F350 with V10 5 speed. he say average 14.7 mpg.

Our 2001 F250 4wd crew cab 8 foot bed V10 with auto. I average 13.7 mpg that require very light foot.

Last weekend I took my 78 F-250 SuperCab 4x4 6500lbs with my freshly built 429 on a 250 mile round trip pulling my 22ft trailer empty half the trip and with a backhoe attackment the second half of the trip and averaged 9.2mpg. Thats stock suspension and tires with 4.10 gears humming down the highway at 3000rpm. The engine still needs a little fine tuning since I think it smells like its running a little rich. I would be real happy if I could get it up to 12mpg after its fully broke in, finely tuned and maybe go with full synthetic gear oil in the axles and t-case.

Gas mileage of a 460. A never ending discussion as near as I can tell. I am convinced that the cheapest and easiest way to get better mileage on a 460 is to just lie about it. People may challenge your mileage claim, but hey this is the internet. No one will really ever be able to prove you are wrong just as you will never be able to prove you are right. It's a win-win. Life is short, drive what you want to.

How many of you have had ethanol added to your gas in the station tanks...? Here in Oregon we have 10% ethanol.... and unleaded regular totally sucks to run now.....I've been running Premium in all my vehicles since Feb. when it became mandatory here....and when I changed from the unleaded averaging 67octane to the premium averaging 88 or so octane I saw an immediate 5-7 mpg jump in economy in all my Rides....?

So how many of you have the same issue....?

I know everyone tends to run the cheapest gas..But do a road trip on Premium and post it...?

just my curiosity and 2 cents......

Minnesota is 10% also. Clyde HATES ethanol, but it's in everything but the premium fuel at some stations. When I have a choice I'll pay a little more for straight fuel but it's getting harder and harder to find. Some of my worst mileage numbers have been with ethanol fuels and my best are always non-ethanol fuels.

When I was selling Fords the ethanol question would always come up, especially with the E-85 compatible vehicles. My comment was, "You can't compare miles per gallon, you have to talk about cents per mile."

Non-ethanol is worth more to me, but not .20 per gallon. Ethanol may be a friend of the corn farmers, but I don't believe it is the savior many make it out to be.

sorry ...

Im running 10% ethanol. The next fill up I might try premium to see if it makes much of a difference. I doubt its gonna be 5-7mpg difference.

The ethanol blend vs straight gasoline is a good point. My buddy always fills up at the same gas station, all they have is 10% blend. Some of the local stations will have straight 87, 10% blend 89, and straight 93. As far as I remember, most all the time, the 10% blend is the same price or a little cheaper, and he always runs the cheaper stuff. I will recommend to him to try something else in the meantime, just to see.

Seems he's set on an 08 though.

I'm not saying the Big Block will get that big a Difference....I can say my TBI 350 in my Suburban Went 5mpg better on Premium over the regular.....In town didn't seem to matter too much, but on road trip with the Family it does....And I did in town comparison on both regular and premium....and hwy driving the same way , with similar results...?

So I am curious as to what you guys get with Premium in the BB.....

Here is my opion of the V-10. My brother has one, he always said why do you drive that old 1975 F-250 with 460 sucking down gas? I usually get around 12 mpg, its 4X4, when you can have a new one with the V-10. He says he gets over 15 mpg all the time, I said no way.Last time I was at his house we went on a road trip,he said here you drive a real truck and handed me the keys, his first mistake, I went directly to gas station and topped it off. He said we have plenty of gas don't stop. well when we got back I stopped at the same station filled it up again, can you guess what I found out? Just out of the clear blue sky the truck only got 13.7 mpg, and I drove it like I was on eggs, never over 55mph. I know he never got what he stated as he has a lead foot all the time.
