Unhappy Turn off TPMS?

2008 F-350 Lariat, 6.4L, 4X4, crew cab, short box, 3.55 rear end, factory 18" wheels, no mods

This is the only thing I don't like about the truck. I have to run 63 psi all the way around to keep the icon light and info center warning off. My back tires are not even flat on the ground at this pressure! Dealer says they cannot recalibrate it to allow a lower pressure. Is there a trick to getting into the computer menu or something to adjust it or turn it off, like people do with the door chime, maybe?

No, there is no simple trick. It takes manual configuration of the programming in both the GEM/SJB and ICM to turn it off. Only the ICM needs to be reconfigured to readjust the pressure set points. You need a Ford computer to do it and if one thing is done wrong, you endup with a dead truck. As you have already found out, dealers are not allowed (nor taught) to do this due to Federal regulations...

63psi seems a bit high... is that what the tire is rated for?

If u r hauling any amount of weight, u should have at least that much pressure all the way round. Should help ya a little bit on milage as well.

TPMS is a federally mandated system like seat belts and smog controls. The fines are extreme should they change things. If you are really serious about making a change you can purchase your own programming tool; TPMS Tools - Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems

Those types of tools give you the ability to communicate with and register sensors, but they do not give you the ability to change the GEM/SJB or ICM modules which is where the on/off and pressure set points are. The only thing that is going to give you that ability is equipment like this...

IDS Home

Even with the correct equipment, there is no simple TPMS menu option for on/of or pressure set point adjusment. You actually have to know what individual parameters need to be changed and where...

No even higher, tire is recommended for 80psi when towing.

That would annoy the heck out of me on a newer truck since I always modulate my pressure based on load.

Why are heavy trucks like Superduties required to have TPMS sensors anyway? Are big trucks next? Seems silly to me.

Dang 80psi? Heck most gas station air pumps won't get you even close to that.

running 70 in mine too! max is 80 psi, better mileage, trade off is the ride I would suppose, but I think the ride is great.
65 on the door sticker is for the most comfort.
