when you bolt the pick up bed down on a 1954 ford f100, do you need to put anything under the cross members that sit across the chassi?? if so has anyone got any pictures. cheers
I think there is supposed to be some rubber pads. I've seen kits listed in the parts catalogs but I can't remember for what year.
On my 49 I went to a local rubber/gasket type supplier and talked them out of a small piece of scrap and cut my own pads. You coul duse a piece of on old mudflap or conveyor belt, etc. My pads are cloth reinforced rubber approx 2" square. I punched the holes in them with a gasket punch.
You need a bed-to-frame pad kit. They are basically rubber reinforced isolators that fit between the cross sills and the frame. A set of eight costs around $10. The Dennis Carpenter catalog, which you can download, has a picture of the pads.
You can also make these pads for next to nothing if you have some high density rubber - also handy if you need to pack up the bed a tiny bit higher than the thickness of the pads in the kit eg. to add extra clearance for lowering shackles.
