Read this link and see if it helps any. 66 galaxie 289 168 tooth flex plate - FordMuscle.com Forums Of course it prolly don't matter, since yer going with the AOD anyway. Not disreputing what was said, just saying it sounds to me you don't have Fairlane parts.
The parts catalog crosses over ID # C5AF-6375-C to Ford p/n C5AZ-6375-C. This is not a '66 289 only flexplate, it fit 1965/68.

Ford later replaced C5AZ-6375-C (168T) with C5AZ-6375-T (164T), then in 1980, replaced it with EOAZ-6375-A.

Ford updates parts catalogs 4 times a year to make corrections, add new info. There have been at minimum 40 parts catalog changes to the 65/72 catalog since 1967 (last printing 1975), so if it wasn't true that C5AZ-C was replaced by C5AZ-T...it would have been corrected years ago.

Contact any Ford dealer, ask them look at their OSI catalogs / there it is: C5AZ-C r/b C5AZ-T r/b EOAZ-A.

Most ppl here or on other sites don't have parts catalogs, or any other Ford info. So some post heresay, "I heard it somewhere" or "read it somewhere" BS like that, not based on facts.

btw: The early 1961/68 car parts catalog shows C5AZ-C.

The catalog most ppl have used since 1972 is the 1965/72 parts catalog...which does not even list C5AZ-6375-C.

If I didn't have a copy of the early catalog, I couldn't have posted anything.

That makes sense, Bill. Reading the Ford Muscle posts and looking at the part numbers in my autokrafter catalog for Fairlanes showed discrepencies in the numbers MT54 showed as being non-Fairlane numbers. But if the catalog only shows updated numbers after 1972, then it obviously wouldn't show the original numbers he posted. Hard to beat experience.
