North Dakota Roll Call

Hello, all! My name is Russ. I lived in Minot from 1998 - 2004, Minneapolis from 2004 - early 2007, and have been in Bismarck since. I have an '05 F150 XLT 4X4, an '85 Bronco 4X4, and a '70 Mustang. The '85 has been the fun project since '98, and sadly I'll be needing to part with it to make more time (and space) for the '70's restoration. And I had even picked out the new color!

Yeah I bought the 32's before I lifted the truck. Now that it's lifted I'd like to go 35 or 37's but I only have the 5.0l so I'm already limiting myself power wise( 3.55 rear ) I don't want to switch gears since I have pretty weak axle's already and would like to upgrade, especially from ttb to sas. Plus my front has some issues since lifting it, all ball joints, a u joint or two, and wheel bearings, radius arm bushings, are all shot and I'm sure much more.
To make matters worse the f 150 has recently been promoted to my daily driver. I need to find a beater real quick. haha
I guess I'm pretty new to all this though and have very limited resources so we'll see how far this truck gets built. I may just run the **** out of it as is and junk it once its done.

O wow, I don't know how you would run 35s with a 30turd, and 3.50s. I'm switching to 4.56s with my 33s. That way I'll get some power back. You are less likely to break axles with the lower gear, because u don't have to give it as much gas to spin the tires. Also if u do SAS it, as long as u use a D44 the gears would swap over from the TTB

I know I have a lot to learn in the suspension/ drive line area before I will feel confident enough to pull something like the sas off. I like to know what I'm doing before I jump into something like that, that way I'm not trying to locate tools as I work.
I hope with this ND chapter I can find some fellow wrenches that enjoy hitting the trails and working on vehicles as much as I do. That way I can learn a few new things and hopefully help out on some sweet trucks.

I didn't lift my TTB, because they are hard to keep alined when lifted. But I thought the stock tires where way to small. So that's why I stuck the 33s on it. I have some knowlage that I'm willing to share if u need help with something. I have a couple projects going on right now, and a couple on the "waiting" list.

If you arent up for regearing or putting a ton of money in it, i would just lower it a bit and run 33s or so with a 3 inch lift. Then again I run 31s on my Mountaineer with no lift, just cutting, but I already have an axle to replace the IFS and will regear to 4.56 or lower with 33s.
Oh, and Welcome to the ND chapter, Ryan.

I can relate to that. If you ever need a hand or just want someone to bs with while you wrench, let me know. Like I said I'm new to a lot of this lifting and suspension so I'd love to get as much hands on as I can. My main problem is terminology, if I only knew for sure what parts people are referring to, I would be much more confident.
I guess for only owning a truck 6 months now I'm doing alright. It will all come within time. I just wish I had some buddies that liked to wheel, but I'm sure I'll meet a few this year.
