In tank fuel pump cross year fit

I ran into this site that shows a tank replacement and they also show the fuel pump in the 92 ford. My question is was this a high pressure replacement for low in the tank and high on the rail or did they start doing 4.6l by this year and it used different fuel line psi? And do the cross fit question, could a high pressure tank pump be used in an older 5.0 EFI if the high off the rail was bypassed?

Thanks!

what year is the truck you are working on?

if it has on rail pump then the tank pump is low p.

if no on rail then tank pump is high p.

No, Ford started using the high pressure in-tank pumps in 1990. Prior to that the high pressure pump was external. The line pressure is the same.

I believe the tank openings are different sizes for the hi/low pumps. So if you wanted to convert for some reason you might need to swap tanks as well. Not 100% sure on this, though.

That's what I was after Andym. My truck is a 86 with low in the tank, high on the rail. I just replaced the pump/sender with the fancy brass float in the back tank but in my searches for the vent hose line(mine was dry rotted and not connected) found that link and wondered if single high pres in the tank conversion was probable/possible.

I'm guessing 90+ high pressure tank pumps have done something different with the sending unit?

Yes they changed the sending unit and the dash gauge in 1990 also. So a 92 sending unit is not electrically compatible with a 86 gauge.

I just found out that Ford had a change with the in tank fuel pump in 93?

I was told by the local stealership that there is a jumper wire I was going to have to buy to put a new pump in. I'm starting to wonder if I am going to have to put it in the shop to change the fuel pump

Not sure what you are putting it in.
The fuel pumps are all the same from 1990-1996 for the same size tank and position tank (front/rear).
There is not any wiring differences from 1990-1996 for F-series trucks.

It was the price he quoted me with some kind of jumper wire $280.00 and I went to FTE Parts guy he was a 100 cheaper. O'Reillys Auto Parts is the cheapest so far.

For some reason I had it in my head that the fuel pump went in the same way that my 85 F150 EFI did

No in the 85 you would replace the whole unit but in the 1990 -1996 you just replace the FDM with the fuel pump inside of it. You will need to butt connect the wires together inside the tank as in the photo below.

original pump F3TZ9A407C r/b F6TZ9A407CA and loom F8PZ9A213AA REPLACED BY

F6TZ9A407CC AND F8PZ9A213AB you need the wire connector(loom) to connect to the style pump.

WIRING ASY., FUEL SENDER [GAS, CONVERTS ORIGINAL WIRING
FOR 4 WAY MICRO-PPIN CNNECTOR THAT ATTACHES TO THE MAIN
BODY WIRING HARNESS 14405 AT CHASSIS CROSSMEMBER.
REQUIRED TO USE 1996 9A407 FOR 1990-95 VEHICLES..]

The O'Reillys part might just be a pump and not the assy like the OEM replacement.

the hi/lo change was actually min 89 (the date was feb?)

but Im not sure what the Op was getting at - are you saying there are are 2 pumps inline to each other in your 92?

as for sender compatibility, give me the ohm range for both sets and I will show you how to make em compatible
