Ford Factory CB antennae?

Ranger429 determined what I thought to be a winch/plow control port under my dash to be be a factory CB port. This is the antennae that it sports. If it is correct, then I will have to find a damned CB mic/controller. I just hate looking for goodies. (Just kidding) Thanks for any help.

Thats where the radio antenna is on my truck. That doesn't really look like a CB antenna to me but who knows. You can ripp it out and install a Universal am/fm antenna from autozone, advance and etc....

Wow, that would be one of the dumbest things to do.

1st off 78 DON'T RIP IT OUT OF THERE!!!
That is probably the most hardest to find unmolested factory option you will probably ever see. That is indeed the factory AM/FM/CB antenna. It also works for the AM/FM radio over and above the rare factory CB system. I have probably 3 spare mics here, let me make up my mind wether or not I want to part with one of them. Here is a pic of mine and also a pic of an NOS AM/FM/CB antenna I still have.

Here is a picture of the mic your looking for.

Thanks Ranger, I really would not have removed it. I think DFK thought I may be having difficulty with the existing one. It works great with the not so factory Alpine CD headunit I have. I assume the mic mounts on the little black thing that is mounted to my dash with screws. Thanks again. I would be interested in a mic, but don't part with it if you would regret it.

That little black thing on the dash is indeed the mic hangar. That might be harder to find than an antenna. Mics show up on ebay all the time.

Nope, wasn't being an *** at all. Misguided information on a rare antenna isn't help at all. Why make mention to rip it out? He never claimed to have a problem with it, only wanted clarification as to what kind of antenna it was. Plus I never called you dumb, I said it would be one of the dumbest things to do. That is probably where most of these antennas went is in the garbage because people had no concept of how they worked and just ripped them out and replaced it.

My bad. My original Ford antenna went to crap (Wasn't like one pictured) and had to be replaced, no doubt from being old. I'm not up on every Ford aftermarket option so its my fault. Learn something new everyday.

Are there any similar aftermarket setups available? I'd like to add a CB but don't want extra antennas.

IF you don't want any additional antennas then this is the only option. You can use the OE antenna as picture with an aftermarket CB. It does not have to be the factory CB setup to use this antenna. I have heard that Radio Shack sells an AM/FM/CB antenna as well but have never seen it.

I figured I'd hae to find something aftermarket as the OEs are rare as you said. Can you talk on the CB and have the radio on at the same time? Do you suffer any CB range loss or a decrease in performance with an integrated antenna?

Originally the CB was wired thru the OE radio so it cut out the AM/FM radio when you turned it on. When I restored my Bronco I used a new dash speaker from LMC and wired that direct to the CB system. Now I can have my stereo on and listen and talk on the CB at the same time. The output range on the OE CB is not the greatest. I can only get out around 5 air miles on it. Really that does not bother me as I put it in the truck for the rare factor more than the use factor. One other thing about a 78-79 Bronco, the control box mounted behind the driver side rear cargo panel area where there is an ash tray. In a 78-79 Bronco if there is an ash tray there it did not come with the CB setup. If there is no ash tray on the rear cargo panel then it is originally a factory equipped CB Bronco. With some modifications to the ash tray itself I was able to get the box mounted behind it. I'm still looking for a non ash tray black cargo panel to replace that if I ever find it.
