Installing a msb coil 8200 series

Hey guys:
I'm going to install a MSB coil 8200 series on a 49-53 239 flathead. The top is only marked with a plus and minus. Am I correct in assuming that the positive goes to the positive side of the battery and the negative goes to the distributor? And the guy mentioned a resister. Is it necessary? Thanks in advance. Ralph

Are you using the stock distributor and points? I assume you are running 12v?

The MSD Site says it comes with a 0.8 ohm ballast resistor, P/N 8214
