Ford made one for many years. One side has an amber reflector, a diminishing mirror on the other. The mirror swiveled 360 degrees on its base.

C5TZ17696A .. 4 1/2" Round Diminishing Mirror Kit-Used with Western or Western Junior Mirrors.

McDonald Obsolete Parts in Rockport IN has one: 812-359-4965 / JST Automotive in Lebanon TN has one: 615-443-3086 / Dennis Carpenter's NOS parts site shows eight: 704-786-8139

I think that the blind spots they make more than make up for the ones they eliminate. Especially when you can't see out the back window.

I replaced a broken and bent mirror head on my 1972 camper special which had the western mirrors, with one off a 1975.

It fit exactly, and looked identical.

The only difference I saw in them was the original mirror head had the 60's FO-MO-CO "in the oval" script, and the one from the 75 had the standard Ford Oval. Other than that they were identical.

The frame looked exactly the same too.

It could be a case of updated part numbers, or something that I didn't notice with the naked eye.

Might be worth taking a look though.

Welcome to FTE

Do you need the complete mirror, or just the mirror head?

The complete mirror (C7TZ17696E) is almost impossible to find NOS. No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

No one is reproducing it, either.

The mirror head (C7TZ17723A), while obsolete, can be found NOS.

The support arms were not available by themselves, so there's no part number for them.

Check with FTE member camperspecial65, he hits all the wrecking yards in the Sea-Tac area, and might know where one can be found.

You can find him in the 1961/66 forum, or email me...I'll pass along his email address.

Here's a bit of info someone may find handy. If the mirror glass is broken or faded but the head is still good a glass shop can cut and install new glass. When I redid the junior versions on my 72 I disassembled the heads and had new glass cut for them. New glass for both was $20 and change.

All of the 67 - 72 trucks with the CS package I've ever seen had the 3 point style mirrors. I'm not sure if they were part of the package or just an option that was commonly ordered with it.

There was one L/H mirror as standard equipment, many more were optional.

The Feds mandated that all 1967 cars and light trucks had to come with a L/H outside mirror.

So...1967 was the first year Ford offered a standard equiptment L/H mirror on F100/350's, but it was the same mirror the 1967 Galaxies used.

But the standard mirror was not installed at the factory, as a matter of fact, no outside mirrors were.

At the factory, the mirrors were placed in a box, and put on the cab floor.

The dealers installed every outside mirror, this was the case in 1948, and was still the case at least thru 1996.

1967: The plain jane L/H Galaxie mirror was standard, a matching plain jane right hand Galaxie mirror was optional.

There were four versions of the Western Junior Mirrors, two painted, two stainless.

One each of the painted and stainless Western Jr. mirrors featured a 3rd support arm, while the two others did not.

1968/72: The Western Mirrors continued, the plain jane outside mirrors were the same as 1968 Galaxies (they are hooded), and a remote version was offered for the left side beginning in 1969.

The reason Ford did not install outside mirrors at the factory was. If the customer wanted something else, the holes would have to be filled in, and the door(s) repainted.

The mirrors, especially the Western type could be damaged while the trucks were being shipped, the other reason Ford didn't install mirrors at the factory.

Some aftermarket reproduction parts sellers refer to the Galaxie types as the "Sport Mirror" but Ford never called them that.
