snapped like a twig...

This what happens to a D44 with 40" ltb's! Oh well, easy fix and thought i would share some carnage shots. Enjoy.

Also i am thinking that the d44hd axle shafts are the same as non-hd axle shafts. Am i correct? Just wanted to make sure before i tore my spare axle apart. 18 spline outers and 30 spline inners.

as did i, thought it was sas with the 60, if not, either swap to 60 or go chromo. I think nick (quadzjr) is running 44" tires on a chromo 44.

From what I have seen, the only difference between a D44 and a D44HD is the "HD" They use the same stuff.

By the way, nice workIt really ripped the caps right out. Where you turned or going straight?

I was actually going straigt when it snapped. I was going across a section with alot of ruts though, thats what caused it. It only lasted the first pass through the mud, not even half way. Maybe 15 yards.

Nope, the HD was 8 lug and bigger brakes IIRC.

also when you drop a d44hd on your head, you get the hd imprint also along with the 44.

The older closed knuckle 44HD's had bigger u-joints. The open knuckle are all standard 44 sized stuff.
