Should I buy this?

Hey guys! First off I would like to say hi to everyone. I have spent many hours reading threads but this is my first post. My wife and I are in the market for a 04-08 FX4 or Lariat with a budget of 15-18k. This is proving to be much harder than I originally thought it would be. We live in Kansas and drove down to Ok. to look at one this weekend.

It seems to have everything we want, including brand new tires and a line-x bed liner. The exterior was really good other than a 1/2 a dozen rock chips, a couple door dings, and the plastic Ford like to put around the wheel well, and on top of the bed rails was fading a little bit. The interior was near perfect other than I didn't like the fact that the previous owner had hard wired in a navigation system and left behind the wiring and bracket mounted behind the center bezel.

It is a one owner with a clean carfax. As you can see his asking price is 18,977 and he is not willing to come down much from there. We offered him 17,500 and he let us walk. He was not willing to budge from 18,250 out the door. I have booked the truck and suggested retail is $20,500, but trucks are not selling at that these days. After getting home, my wife and I are kind of kicking ourselves for not buying it.

What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

Thanks for all your input!

Sorry guys, I didn't realize that was the wrong link...

Seems like a decent truck, although if you do buy it, I would have them replace the plugs since it is an 05.

Ok, good idea on the plugs. Are the BF Goodrich rugged trail tires that are on it, decent? He of course went on and on about them. Told me they were a 900.00 set of tires and on tirerack.com they are 161.00 a piece... lol

Well, that is what I originally thought as well. I am not saying you are wrong, but where are you finding an 05 screw FX4 for 15000.00?

Sounds a little pricey considering the used truck market right now. I live in PA and like you spent weeks and a lot of driving looking for a super cab/crew in those same years. I was also trying to stay in the $16-18,000 range. Prices for similar trucks ranged from $15,000 to $20,000 with no apparent reason why. I walked out of alot of dealerships while sticking to my guns because no one wanted to deal, and I had CASH in hand. Bottom line is I ended up finding a '05 F150 SuperCab XLT 4x4 with bed liner, bed cover, exterior and interior colors I wanted with 20,000 original miles on it; It is immaculate inside and out with not a scratch or ding to be found. They wanted $18,000 on the sticker; After an hour, I drove it off the lot same day OUT THE DOOR, TAX & TAGS for $16,500. If its exactly what you want I would say go for it; It just sounds like alot of money for a truck with the small list of cosmetic problems that comes with it.

If there holding the price around 18 they have probably had it for 6 months or more.A friend of mine just got 2004 fx4 supercab with 50000 miles for 12.I beat they are buying trucks like this at auction for 10.You can get new for 25 there giving these trucks away right now just keep looking.

Unfortunately, I think the biggest price factor is the super crew. We are trying to decide what we can live without, i.e. center console shifter, leather, fx4 package all together...We have been eBay shopping for the last month because, here in Ks. you can not touch an 05 screw fx4 for less than 18k. (sticker price)

Ok, what do you guys think of this one then?
I imagine we could probably walk with this one for 15.5k at most...

To answer the question, they are pretty decent tires.
I went off-roading with them through a rainstorm and I was really surprised at how well they performed.
Throughout 80% of the adventure, I was able to drive through in 2wd.
And I never had to actually engage 4wd to get out of anything.

And they are quiet on the highway.
So far I like them.

Also, the second F-150 I saw looks like a hell of a deal.

Call Bob Allen Ford in Overland Park, Ks.

The phone # is (913)381-3000

Talk to Darrell Woodward. He is a sales manager there. (They call him Woody). I've bought the last 2 vehicles there, and have been completely satisfied.

Tell him that I told you to get ahold of him.

My name is Mike Jay.

He knows me well. He has always been very helpful with/to EVERYONE that I have sent there.

P.S. I live in Humboldt, Kansas

I bought a couple of boats at Shady Creek Sales in El Dorado. (The last one that I bought was last August. <2007>) I like the boat dealer well. Ever do business with them ??
