towing in 80e?

Replaced my PCM a while back just for the benefit before I bought the full blown DP-Tuner, had nothing to tow..

Have a friend wanting a car tow, total should be less than 4k on all flat roads for about 100 miles, mostly highway miles.

Should I worry about this? Probably will not get the full DP till next month, he can't wait

I would say no just because you Don't have gauges from what I can see in your Sig but if you do and you keep a close eye on it I would say got for it!

i'd say you'll be ok, just dont goose it around. would be alot safer if you had gauges.

I would say your OK to tow on that setting, If your EGT get high on a Ec tune than there's something wrong, the chip would be over fueling. You should be ok, let us know.

Thanks for the input, hopefully gauges and full DP next month, when is the new F6 chip supposed to be released? Might as well wait for that.

I've pulled 6k+ in the 80E but ONLY on the flats, and that is in CO at 5000'+ elevations, which means the air is thinner and EGTs easier to bump up. I watched my gauges and they were fine, but like others have said, take it easy on the go-pedal.

I tow in 100 HP mostly light load but a couple heavy ones. I just keep an eye on my gauges.

Erik,

Right from DP-Tuner Programing help page - LINK

"80 hp Econo- used for Daily diving. Not recommended for towing. The shift strategies, fueling and other aspects of the tuning is different from the tow tunes".

Just take it easy. 3rd gear for any grades, not OD. Don't what the EGTs to get to high.

I asked Jody about this and he said it would do no damage, tranny or otherwise as long as your EGT's were within specs.
I tow my ol mans bass boat, pig roasters, empty gn and all that type of stuff in 80E.

I guess that I am the only cautious one.
Too many stories about cracked pistons here on FTE from overdoing it.
