Have an 08 Expy. Everytime I shift to reverse, especially after having been parked, there is a loud and very distinct CLICK sound soming from under the vehicle. It sounds like a heavy switch making contact. So it's a higher pitched click as opposed to a lower pitched clunk, thunk or medium sounding bang. But it is louder when shifting to reverse, and much quieter shifting to drive.

When I had my compass replaced a month ago "they" couldn't hear aything, of course. The click sound has gotten louder.

There is no other symptoms to be heard or felt. Everything feels to be operating properly.

Any ideas?

 

Any chance you have a u-joint failing? I know the vehicle is kind of new for that to normally be a problem, but the u-joint could've been defective from day one.

 

Thanks alloro. I would think a u-joint would make a louder deeper sound and occur more often than when I shift into Reverse. Once in gear I no longer hear any noises. I would think such a mechanical problem would be more pronounced.
