Best Beach Truck?

Hello all,

Just looking for some options for a new truck. I plan on doing a ton of surf fishing this winter. My local Ford dealer has plenty of F-Series trucks on the lot. What is better on sand? Light weight F-150, 6' bed or bigger F-350 with 8' bed. Really want to get the crew cab. Don't really have any need for towing.

Thanks in advance

For a beach truck, I would go with the truck I have or similar. F-150, super cab, short bed, 4wd. 4Wd being very important on a beach. I have been on beaches, and I would have not left them without 4WD. Keep your truck as light as possible. If you are not towing, then get the smaller engines, just to save a couple of miles per gallon and weight. On a beach use wide tires, the wider the better.
Have fun.

My F-150 is an '05 FX4 SCab w/6.5' bed and it sees quite a bit of sand. It has been a capable truck in the sand. I have a powerful 12 volt compressor to bring the tire pressure back up from the 20 psi I deflate the tire to while on the beach. Shorter wheel based trucks work out better on sand compared to heaver, long wheel based trucks. I would steer more towards an F-150.

My previous truck (95 F150 extended cab 351 31x10.5 15) saw many miles of the national seashore on padre island. I thought the bfg at ko's worked really well due to the tight tread pattern. I could hook up to a stuck vehicle, bury my truck, untie the rope and the truck would "pop" right back on top of the sand. I had the factory limited slip and it worked great. Haven't been on the beach much since I moved to houston.

Make sure you wash it down all over and under after leaving the beach.

good luck.

My uncle has an 06 Screw Lariat 5.4L 4x4 and it does fine on the beach, pulled many Chevys out! I would still reccommend getting the 5.4L because you'll be much happier with the power it has, and at least in Expeditions it doesn't make that big of difference. My aunt had an 03 Expedition 4.6L and we had an 04 Expedition 5.4L and we got better mpg on the hwy, and she got us in town.
