Engine Coolant

Engine Coolant
Did a search, didn't really find an answer. I read that a 2004 4.6L F150 takes "yellow" colored Engine Coolant 50/50 with distilled water. I picked up some Prestone Coolant and also some distilled water to mix 50/50.
I also read NOT to use "green" colored coolant. What is this coolant that I bought considered...to me it looks yellow, but it could also pass for green maybe.

Motorcraft gold or Zerex G-05
...is what you should be using. The Ford gold coolant is basically used by *some* other brands and is generically called G-05. It is a "HOAT" formula--hybrid organic acid technology.
G-05® Antifreeze/ Coolant
The Prestone stuff is probably OK but does NOT meet Ford warranty requirements and will require more frequent changes. If you want to maintain the original 5 year change intervals, you should be using Motorcraft gold or the G-05 stuff.
I looked into this stuff a while ago and you definitely need a decoding ring to figure it all out. I am also using the G-05 in my '91 BMW 318is because it is virtually the same as the BMW factory stuff.
NEVER use the orange GM Dexcool type stuff under any circumstances.
edit--just looked at AzBlueWolf's link for full changes, and he is using the G-05 for full changes as well. This seems to be the best choice for Ford, Chrysler, and some other brands like my BMW....

Ive never seen the G-05 stuff at a local parts store. The forum sheds light on many things for me!
The prestone coolant I mentioned is not okay by Ford? I thought it met all the requirements, but I could have missed the boat. I was only asking if its okay because I've got 2 brand new jugs of it in the garage, and I read that "yellow" coolant is supposed to be used in my 2004 4.6 truck. I will continue more research.

* The new Prestone® 50/50 Prediluted All Makes All Models Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant formula should only be used to top off the cooling system. For a flush and fill, motorists should use the full concentrate formula offered by the brand to ensure the right mix of water and antifreeze concentrate.

It's pretty clear from the Prestone info on their website that it does not meet Ford warranty specs.
