I have a 1997 4 cylinder Ranger and need a new alternator.

I found one on Kijiji but the seller states that it is for a 1998. I am wondering if it would fit my 1997 Ranger?

On Napaonline or Autozone for your year, amps & the rest. Save the image loaded from thier site & then view the image alongside this one. The housings are quite a bit different. Why not get a good rebuild for less? Or have yours rebuilt. These days, rebuilds are about as good as a "new" unit due to competition & cheating.

 

Or go on www.advanceauto.com and look up the part number from your alternator, then look up the part number for the other vehicles alternator. If they match, then they will work.

 

They don't. That's because the castings/ housings are completely different with the bracket arrangements. It's likely it to be workable in some convoluted way...
