a ball joint press or a BFH. i used a BFH and a piece of steel shaft. it worked. a little crude but it was effective. it also depends on how long they've been in there. 2 of mine were still originals and 2 had been replaced. the originals almost made me want to kill someone and the other 2 came out nice.

You have to pull the spindle off he truck to replace either joint, and it's a lot of work, so it's recommended you replace both joints while it's off. I did these on my F150 last year and it required a couple large sockets and a 3/4 drive ratchet with a 3' pipe on it just to get the ball joint nuts off, a 1/2" ratched died trying to break these loose, and the pneumatic impact wrench I had access to didn't do anything. I used a pickle fork and BFH to pop the joints loose from the TTB arm, and a large vise and sockets to press the joints out of and into the spindle, a shop press would make life easier.

Good luck! I'd plan a weekend for it if you've never done it before. It's a lot of work.

Also, If a 4x4, you might want to install greasable steering u joints at this point.
Much easier now than to have to open it up again next winter.
