'67 F100 Turn Signal/Emergency Flasher Problem... Question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Sep-02 AT 06:56 PM (EST)]Turning to the experts for help...

My turn signals and emergency flashers started acting up, and then went out altogether. No problemo, just crawl under there and unplug the flasher(s), go buy new ones and... wahlah!! Right?? Wrong!!

There are no turn signal flasher little round cannister thingies up under there... oh no, huh-uh!! Instead there's a 2.25" square by 1" deep box, with 2 prongs (male and female), with 2 wires leading to each prong...

The unit is stamped "Autolite" and "C7TB-15550-A" (see pics below) The Ford parts house and NAPA, etc all shook their heads, the number does not cross-reference. "Obsolete Ford" however tells me this IS the flasher unit that came in the '67 F100. They changed the part number to C7TZ-13350-B, and tell me it costs $62.95 to replace... ouch! Not sure I'm on board with that... I mean, this looks transistorized?

Help me out, guys... what the heck is this?? And can I replace it with typical flashers? There's 2 wires going to each prong, total of 4 wires... I'm thinking one terminal is right, the other left. One wire being turn signal, the other emergency flasher. I'm considering installing two (2) typical 12v flashers, breaking out the right and left from the turn and emergency... if that's what they really are.

Thoughts? Suggestions??
Please e-mail me at golfersa@netscape.net with ideas, or post them here... I'm fixing to start cuttin'!

THANKS!

'67 F100 Turn Signal/Emergency Flasher Problem... Question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Sep-02 AT 02:02 AM (EST)] Well I would buy a nice heavy duty 2 prong flasher unit. Then off to the junkyard, or in my case my junk drawer , and get a 2 prong connector with about 1 foot or so of the wire connected to it. Then it is cut and splice time. Of course I would save the old flasher unit and connector just in case I ever wanted to go back to the stock form. That way you have the connector and the part number as well as the unit to show a parts guy. But the biggest reson to keep it, IMHO, is I have a hard time throwing those electrical items away....never know when you may need a piece of them

Sparky

ps
So both the turn signal and emergency flashers use the same unit? Interesting.

'67 F100 Turn Signal/Emergency Flasher Problem... Question

Sparky...

I tried seperating out the circuits, puting the emergencies on their own flasher, could not make it work.

So I changed out both connectors (no need to go to a junkyard, they're available everywhere), and went from this...

To this...

FYI, Dennis Carpenter has the old unit under C7TZ-13350-B for $10.00 - I still like the conversion to the "buy it at the local grocery store for $1.99" flasher better.

'67 F100 Turn Signal/Emergency Flasher Problem... Question

Good job glad it works

Sparky

ps
The junkyard connector I was referring to was the molded plastic one that has both wire connectors inside it.

This thread is almost 20 years old. Those pictures were on the old software and are lost, I lost a bunch myself. I checked, he hasn't posted in years so he is long gone also.
