HELP! How do I remove the ashtray from the center dash console?
The ashtray will not stay closed but I can't figure out how to get it out to see what the problem is. Can't see any clips to push or anything. Anyone ever taken one out before? Ford said I had to buy a whole new one $100 plus installation.

 

You have to pop off the dash trip piece that goes around the radio. Stick your fingers under the bottom edge of it and pull hard but gently so you don't crack it. There are clips that go around the whole thing you have to pry up.

Once you have the trim off you'll see there are two 7mm screws that hold the ashtray in place. Take those out and then lift the whole ashtray out. It's a piece of cake. There is a spring that might have popped off or something.

 

Thanks for the info. When you say "the dash trip piece", are you talking about the woodgrain panel that covers the entire console?

 

Yep, that's what you have to remove.

Thanks for the advice. I fixed the problem last night. A small pin was missing that runs along a track on back of the ashtray when it open and closes.
