429 In my 89 Bus

I have a 429 engine in my 89 school bus. I'm considering to sell. It runs and drive sthe bus still. I converted the bus into a storage shed for parts and lumber. I was thinking of saving the engine for some future project.
Question is: I know it is not likethe early 429, but will this engine tranfer into our trucks or cras that are being rodded. I contact the wreckers about these engines and they want 1800 to 2000 for a use engine.
So I figure selling it at 1500 or best would be a good start. But will this fit our 1/2 tons or old Galaxies?

yes and no.

the med duty truck (not to be confused with the light duty trucks f-150 to F350 range) 429 uses the same block and heads as the regular 429/460 engines. so they will physically fit in place of other 429/460 engines.

the biggest difference is that the med duty 429 uses a different crank that is forged for one, has a larger front snout and different front timing cover and associated accessories. so that might or might not cause some problems for fitment of accessories and such. also some used the front timing cover as the motor mount location (not sure exactly when they stopped doing this or which models) so the side mounts might not be drilled and tapped.

not 100% sure but i think that the flywheels are different also for the manual transmissions. the med duty engine uses different transmissions than the light duty trucks, so that might be an area that you have to take into consideration also.

so they are close enough to being the same to make it not a tough swap, but enough differences to be not a straight forward swap either.

probably better off trying to sell it as a replacement engine for the med duty truck crowd.
