1968 Ford Torino GT Fastback

Hey there,

Some of you might remember the thread I made on the 69 Cutlass Supreme, and that I was looking to buy one...Well I went and talked to the owner, and it turns out he would like to keep it now, BUT...

Message from email received:

I have a 1968 Torino GT fastback, 390, C6 trans, 9" diff, bucket seats, console. Includes a new interior kit and a 69 Fairlane 4dr parts car.

...Now, I am waiting on pics, and once I get them I will post here right away. How valuable is this particular car, and amusing it is in decent/restorable shape, what should I offer him? Any information that you could give me would be great!

Thanks

Man its really hard to tell what to offer him without seeing the shape of the car.

I found this for a link, not sure how accurate it is.

That is a sick car though. If it is in good shape that's a keeper

C6 is an auto trans, not manual.

If anyone is curious what it looks like, don't know what the desireablity is, boils down to "do you want it" or not. Or are you buying it to flip?

Total production: 23,939. Too bad it isn't a ragtop, only 5,310 of those were produced.

JMO: I prefer the 1967 Fairlane GT. I never cared for the styling of the '68/69's which is almost identical.

Value is in the eyes of the beholder. Look very carefully for rust...cuz this is a unibody. No frame under these cars.

Just a subframe in front of the firewall.

Values: $500.00 for a parts car, 18 grand for a minty example...but...

Most value guides are next to worthless, as they are based on overhyped circuses aka car auctions.

I just got this email from him...

"The rust that I have found is on the front floor boards, trunk seal lip, small hole in rear quarter panel, and the fresh air intake tubes. There is 73,836 miles showing on the odometer but how many times it has flipped over is a good question. The interior kit I bought from Dearborn Clasics in 2003 for $1600 which includes the whole interior and all weatherstripping except for the dash pad. There is also a rear leaf spring relocation kit to allow for larger rear tires. I had the car appraised in 2004 for $3900 so I would like to get $2600 firm for both cars and interior kit."

I don't know if it's worth it for me right now...maybe if I were older (I'm only 16.) Hmm

It's rough as a cob...a rusty mess...and it's a unibody, so there's more rust hidden in places unseen by the naked eye.

The only thing that parts car is good for is some mechanical parts...which, outside of the suspension, and some electrics, will only be the same if it has a 390 engine (which I doubt).

It's nothing more than a money pit...PASS!

i agree with numberdummy, your going to end up paying $5k for repairs just to make it driveable let alone half decent looking. sorry to say its not worth the 7500ish . PASS. If it had a 429CJ id say ya only for the motor

I agree with Bill and Chris. The car is a neat enough looking car, but that rust could be more of a headache then you could ever imagine.

Gotta echo above, above. Alot of work in there, and there is always, ALWAYS surprises when it comes to the body. Rule of thumb, find a project that has a solid body, but may be rougher mechanically. Mechanics are alot less expensive than body.
