Galvanized diesel fuel tank?

I have heard that diesel fuel tanks should not be galvanized. Is this true and why? I just got of the phone with the auto store and found out the tank they sell for gas and diesel are exactly the same one, and it is galvanized. I even called the tank manufacture, Spectra Peminum, and they told me the same thing. Acording to Spectra they manufacture there tanks to the OEM standards and they are infact galvanized. What is the corect tank then galvinized or not?

Out tanks are some sort of plastic unless you have a 450/550 then they are metal, not sure if they are galvanized though...doubt it.

Edit: Welcome to FTE.

Diesel fuel and galvanizing will react together over time and degrade(the tank). The 450/550 have a SS tank I belive.

I have taken down several diesel tanks. All being steel - but NON galvanized. They seem to be high grade steel as well. I would assume galvanized is not the proper metal for diesel tanks.

X2

Diesel in a galvanized tank is a no no. OEM specs are for a plastic tank on the 250/350 models.

Diesel will actually dissolve the galvanization (zinc) and then it ends up fouling the injectors.
