I have a '96 E250 4.9L w/ no a/c. How do I find out what size belt I will need to bypass the smog pump? Mine is VERY NOISY and I assume it will lock up at any minute.

Today I used a 94 inch belt to bypass the air pump. Worked flawlessly

Just for the record, you all realize removing/deleting these items is against the law, correct? I'm far from a liberal, left-wing, nut job tree hugger - but these things are in the truck for a reason.

I also upsized the belt and rerouted it on my 302 and it worked perfectly

It took me a bit to get the up sized belt on but it works perfect.

Will the truck pass emissions with the air pump gone? Mine is there but doesnt have the belt on it, and I have my cats.

I have no cat or air pump but I don't get my emissions checked because it's an 89 and I live in nh. Plus I have a guy that stickers my truck as long as it has lights 😂

The only reason the air pump is on your truck is for the air to be super heated in the catalytic converter. Ifor it's not working correctly or if it isn't pumping air, you may fail inspection on a sniffer but you might get away with it as long as the o2 sensors don't get pissy

The air pump just pumps air into the exhaust. That's it. Nothing special about it. Basically it dilutes the exhaust gases with fresh air making the "sniffer" think the engine is putting out less pollutants than it really is.

i have a 1990 with the 5.8. my pump froze up and in addition alot of the emission equipment was gone or bypassed before i bought it. i removed the three smog pump pulley bolts and removed the pulley. i found somewhere on this site the belt number, tried it and it worked perfect. the belt number is 6PK2285. im sure that belt number crosses over into other numbers.
