Tyman, I'd like to see some better pics of that panel. Was there a part # on the box? I have never ever seen a cloth/velvet type of door panel used on these old trucks and would like to know a little more about where they came from.

Are you serious? I live near Chicago, it snows here in the winter and then they put SALT on the road. I have completely restored both of them and I don't care to take either of them out in the winter so they can pick up some decay. Exactly why I bought a new Superduty.

Ranger, I'll see if I can't have my dad shoot some pics of it. Unfortunately those panels were bought and installed while I was overseas on an exchange program.

The box was long gone when I got back, but dad said there was Ford stamping on the panels and they were in a Ford Box. He was really excited because the guy threw him a number on these that rivaled the prices of LMC.

I would really hate to pull the panels and risk breakage to get a number. Maybe he had more, I'll have to ask dad. He had a crap load of stuff I guess.

As far as not driving them in the winter, I understand that. Dad's doesn't see snow anymore for that reason, even though it used to be a farm truck in it's day. I bought my 78 Supercab so I would have 4x4 in the winter (got tired of driving my RWD cougar around in snow, handles like a bathtub sometimes). But the SC is in such good shape I am really reconsidering driving it in the winter. Now I have to find a beater for the winter. I really don't need 3 vehicles.

Go to the car wash and use the spray wax at least once a month. Will go a long way to prevent that type of rust.

The panels were still in the original ford box with ford stamping on back. Dad practically stole them too without trying. It's a bad photo I cropped from another photo. I will try to get others another time. Essentially it looks like the Red Custom Panel Ranger posted but with black crushed velvet type of fabric. It also has the "squares" but I think it is a different pattern. Plus there is the chrome trim piece that goes around. We used these to replace our worn out XLT Woodgrain Panels. They look very good up against the yellow.
Those are the Ranger XLT panels from 1973-1977.

I posted links earlier from the brochures. The inserts are a pleated fabric as I described earlier.

Hope this helps.

Ranger,

I have the cloth inserts in the door panels. They are a velour material, which match the upholstery on the seats. I would have to say they were done by an upholstery shop. My truck is an older restoration, and these panels were already installed when I bought the truck five years ago. I have one picture in my gallery of the panel. If you want more pictures or some closeups, I can provide them.

Some of the trucks from back then with conversion packages(Midas Touch, etc.) had door panels with cloth inserts. Here's an example of a 79:

It was hard to tell from the photos if they were fabric or plastic like Ranger429 showed.

Anyway, here are some more closeups of ours for you Ranger.

I know it's an old post, but in the one pic with the yellow truck the trim is a single chrome strip. On the red interior panel, same thing. But on the NOS with the woodgrain, the chrome is a double stripe with black in the center. Do you know which is correct for a 1973?

I'm looking at a 1973 sales brochure. The picture of the XLT interior shows a single strip.

See, I'm looking at this 73 brochure:

panelbrochure.jpg Photo by nehuge | Photobucket

and if you trace your eyes around the strip, it looks like a black strip in the middle, especially in the upper left corner. Doesn't look like one convex surface, it looks like 2 separate stripes with a groove in the middle like this one:

This one looks like one convex surface but I'm not sure what year that is for.

Anyone?
