new ones are cheaper than the used ones

my dad got a 2007 reg cab 4.2v6 stick in oct of 06. it has right at 18,000 miles on it, extended warranty, etc. brand new i think he paid (with the added warranty, etc. around 14,000) now with "employee pricing" i heard an ad from one ford dealership claiming a new supercrew v8 is 16000 dollars. i'm sure there is a catch, but a regular cab comparable to my dad's sells new for about 10 grand. i was going to swap him my 00 extended cab v8 auto, and possibly trading the 07 in on something smaller, like a ranger, or escape. but the payoff is more than what a new one goes for, so probably not much luck with that.

Theres no catch in the new pricing. Ford and other makers are just hurting on the trucks and are trying to get rid of them

well i didn't mean so much as a catch "but a truck that lists for close to 30,000 seems they'd lose money selling for 16,000. or maybe it means the trucks don't cost near as much to build as they lead you to believe.
just seems like it will be difficult for private sellers to not lose money if they decide they need a different vehicle.

Everyone who bought previous to the last few months and is now selling will be losing money. Until the supply of trucks runs short and the prices go back up. This will happen in the next year or so, the difference will be far fewer new trucks coming in and people will have to make do with used ones for longer.
