My New 2008 Crown Vic Behind the F250

I haven't posted in awhile, but I had a nice ride from Medina, NY (just east of Buffalo, NY) with my "newer" 2008 Crown Vic behind my Truck. It has the 460/E4OD, so I was enjoying 15 mpg's on the way up and back to the Jersey Shore. It's amazing it gets the same mileage whether I'm towing or not. That's an 18ft Bri-Mar open car trailer behind me. I bought the Crown Vic used, but it's this years model with only 12,400 miles. My old 99 Crown Vic is with my younger brother now, but I retired it after 310,000 miles. Time to start a new record with the '08. Just checking in, and I hope you all are doing fine.

Amazing indeed. What's most amazing is that you're the only person on the planet who can do that.

Seriously, everyone I knew with a 460 powered pickup complained about getting mileage around 10 MPG. Do you have like a 2.65 differential in that thing?

We traded off a 2003 Crown Vic last fall. I liked that car. I was thinking about picking up an old PI model next year, putting some Mustang go-fast parts on the engine and terrorizing the locals.

My Crown Vic gets 26+ (best of 27.3) on the highway, but I guess you wouldn't believe that either. 2.73 gears and easy on the pedal makes for a great 86 mile round trip commute. I drive very easy on my truck and car. My F250 is a two wheel drive, 460, 3.55 rear Heavy Duty, and it will get 15mpg on the highway, whether I'm towing or not. I drove 60mph all the way up and down to get my car, and it is what it is. I don't drive like a jackass in hurry. I thought I'd share a bright side in this day and age, but if you want to drive like a moron, keep getting sub 10mpg with a big truck.

One thing I found kinda strange is that back in the glory days of the 460, you could compare two Identical trucks(tranny, gearing, etc) driven by the same person, one would get 4mpg and the other would get over 10mpg.

My '77 F-350 w/460, auto SRW was a camper special with the side panel mounted spare and dual tanks and it got 12mpg running empty and 11mpg towing a 12,000 load back and forth between Iowa and Texas. Of course that was back in the early '90s when gas was gas and not blended like now. So I guess I can believe Pat's mileage claims. Just my 2 cents worth.
