8 lug rotor on F-150
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and finally have a question. Recently I was in dissagreement with a friend who said when he called a local auto parts store for rotors for a 2000 F-150 2wd he was told there were several listings including 7 and 8 lug rotors. I found this hard to believe so I called the store and according to them they do have a listing for 8 lug rotors. Any F-150 trucks that I owned always had 5 lug wheels, including the 2 97's I have now. Anybody ever come across 8 lug rotors on these trucks? I also want to say that I really enjoy the info. the forum provides.

From 2000-04 Ford made a 7700 2WD truck with the old 8 on 6.5" lug pattern. It is NOT the Super Duty 8 on 170mm pattern! The 8 lug pattern was NOT available on 4WD models. The 7700 2WD 8 lug was a fleet only vehicle and had much bigger and heavier duty rotors, spindles, & knuckles that are NOT interchangable with the typical 7 lug 7700 2WD parts.

By the way I am working on a 7700 webpage, it's got some brief info on the F250LD as they are essentially the same vehicle. I'm having web design issues with my Frontpage software....

I have never seen or even heard of an 8-lug 2000-04 (Heritage) 2WD F-150 7700 truck until I found tons of OEM replacement front brake rotor part numbers for this vehicle. These same companies also show a listing for an 8-lug rear brake rotor on a 2000-04 (Heritage) F-150 7700 truck. My local Ford dealership sells these same 2WD F-150 7700 rotors also. According to Ford and the brake companies, the special 8-lug rotor trucks are 2WD ONLY.
Every major OEM replacement brake parts manufacturer makes this 8-lug rotor (Auto Zone: Duralast - 54021, Valuecraft - 54021B, Baer Decela Pair - 54021-020; Advance Auto Parts: Wearever - YH145049, Bendix - 145049, Raybestos - 66527RGS, Raybestos - 1066527, Raybestos - 66527, Raybestos - Super Stop Severe Duty [directional slotted] ST66527L & ST66527; NAPA - 86527; AIMCO - 54021). There is no listing by any of these companies for an 8-lug 4WD rotor on the 2000-04 F-150 7700 (only 7-lug rotors for 4WD, but there is also a 7-lug 2WD as well).
This 8-lug 2WD rotor also fits 1987-97 F-250/350 trucks and 1995-05 E-250/350/450 vans that have the 2WD Twin I-Beam independent front suspension. The 1999-06 F-250/350 Super Duty & Excursion 2WD trucks also have the same Twin I-Beam IFS, but they have the metric 8 on 170mm wheel bolt pattern. Did Ford ever make a 2000-04 2WD F-150 with a Twin I-Beam front suspension?
This American 8-lug rotor is WAY, WAY too big to fit the standard 5/7-lug F-150 spindle/knuckle and uses much bigger wheel bearings & races. I know because I bought one to compare it to my stock 7-lug. It also has a much deeper offset and the lug nuts are almost flush with the outer edge of the wheel. If anyone knows of this vehicle first-hand, how does it attach to the front suspension?
Does it have a larger custom 2WD spindle/knuckle with attachment points for the upper & lower control arms for the double-wishbone IFS, or does it use the same C-knuckle attachments that are found on the aforementioned Twin I-Beam IFS trucks?

eazye727 - I have requested that Ford provide documentation on the 8 lug 2wd 7700s. As a government employee I see many 2wd 7700s in our fleet vehicles. Not one of the 30+ 7700s have 8 lugs. As I mentioned previous to this, the Ford Fleet BBS Guide makes no mention of the 8 lug rotor vehicles - if these were fleet/special order they should be noted there. I intend to get down to the bottom of this. If these trucks exist I will find them.
As a point of contention... your info makes no note of the F250LDs which were 7 lug vehicles as well. I have heard stories of 8 lug trucks in a 2wd version of that model (97-99) and have requested info from Ford in that area as well.

Well I got my answer back from Ford on the existance of the 8 lug F150's... not exactly what I was aiming for, but it answers the 8 lug question from Ford's perspective. I edited it for readability, as the first part was about options and builds, and specific options/packages cannot be counted as the availability of each is really up to the plant. I'm sure that's based on dealer requests and orders. Any way... I emphasized what I think is important.
Dear Kerry,
Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center regarding your production and option inquiry.
We are unable to provide you with the production number for vehicles with a specific option. [...] Unfortunately, this [...] results in there being no method for verifying the number of vehicles produced with a specific package in the production sequence.
Furthermore, in an effort to assist you, we have researched available feature and option package information for the 2000 Ford F-150. Our resources indicate that the 2000 Ford F-150 with a payload of 7700 had the following wheels available:
Wheels, Argent Styled Steel -16" 7 Lug (Four) - Avail. only w/7700 Payload Group.
Wheels, Chrome Styled Steel 16" - 7 Lug (Four) - Avail. only w/ 7700Payload Group.

So... this is what I make of it... no 8 lug trucks were built in 2000 according to the literature. I had asked about the possibility of the option of the 8 lug truck for not only the 7700s but the F250LDs as well. I received what I've been able to find by looking up the information online at the various Ford factory sites that I have access to.
Now, as a side note, have you ever looked for parts for a 7 lug F150? When I first bought mine and did the brakes and shocks I ended up explaining I was really looking for the F250LD, under 8500lb GVWR. Never did the parts places give me an option for an 8 lugger part. At first they tried to give me the 5 lugger's stuff... then I told them to look under the '99 F250LD... all 7 lug options. Now, a few years later I look and see the 8 lug parts. I have a strong feeling that the parts places, even Ford's factory parts catalogs, are a bit screwed up. They are over compensating instead of underselling themselves, just to be safe. Even if they sell an 8 lug rotor and say it's for the 7700, it doesn't necessarily mean they built the trucks with 8 lugs. On the other hand, just because they don't give the 8 lug as an option at the Ford commercial custom build site doesn't mean they didn't build it either....
When we have the proof... the factory 8 lug mounted to a factory built 7700 or F250LD... then we will have no doubt. Call it the Big Foot of 7700/F250LD lore.
