A-pillar gauge install- few questions
#1
#2
Hoping to get my gauges in today and I have a few questions before I get started-
1. The push pins on the door side of the pillar need to be installed close to, but not under, the door seal- correct?Correct. I cannot remember if the pillar was predrilled. Make sure to align it properly cause that is where it will be.
2. Is it really necessary to unhook the batteries? Not if you are using the wire tap type connectors. Also makes it hard to check the power of the wires when the batts are disconnected.

I didn't use the push pins because if you need to service the gauges at a later date, you'll play he$$ getting the plastic apart and you'll have to use new ones to put it back together. I used some countersink flathead screws(painted the color of the A pillar ) and captive nuts. Works great. No need to disconnect the batteries until you make the final electrical hook ups.

Chase..... Also when you drill the holes for attaching it.. drill the holes before you mount the 2 pieces... If you try to drill them when its in position ... you can't get the drill in the correct place to drill a straight hole !! Good luck buddy.. and don't forget to put in your GPR LED at the same time so you don't have to take it back apart ! Mine works awsome.. Thanks again !!!

Why is it I can always make a simple job so damn hard?
Lined up the pillar pod with the extra factory pillar I swiped on Ebay. Drilled the holes for the push pins, drilled and cut holes for wiring. Went to the truck for a test fit, had a hell of a time getting the thing in. Test fit the boost gauge, then remove so I can wire the gauges up etc. Finally get the pillar out- paint scratched... oh well that's why I left myself extra.
Since my gauges aren't fitting very tight, I decide to use the supplied clamps. Ain't gonna happen- won't clear in back. I cut the buggers in half and try again, everything seems great until I try to put the two pillars back together, now the clamps are in the way. Screw around, cut bigger holes, and after way too much time wasted I finally ended up some what satisfied. BTW, the factory clamps WILL fit in there, I came to realize this after they were already cut in half.
So now I need to touch up some paint and finish running all the wires and boost tubing, plus get my trans fluid changed and have the truck ready to roll Wednesday afternoon for a 600+ mile road trip pulling a 28' camper. Wish me luck!

Cause the simple ones are always the ones that turn into a day long project.
The one thing I noticed after I put the gauge pilliar in mine is that when I spin the wheel around real quick with my palm, my fingers whack the pods. Took a while to get used to.
