Quick question for 1995 302 oil capacity
What is the engine oil capacity with filter for a 1995 302 truck motor? The pickup didn't have an owner's manual in it when I bought it so I can't reference it. I also tried searching but I can't seem to get this new search to work as effectively as the old one. I thought I had previously seen that most other 302's held 6 quarts, but I just finished changing my oil and put in the first 5 qt jug and checked it. It looked to be about a quart over. So I started the motor to fill the filter, then checked again and it is about a 1/16 of an inch under the full mark. So was I wrong in thinking that it held 6 qt or is my dipstick not reading right?. I checked it several times, and once after a drove it a couple miles. Please help I need it to drive to school tomorrow.

Consider it confirmed. ALL F-Series built from 1987-1996 with gasoline engines (regardless of displacement) call for 6 quarts of motor oil. This means the 300 4.9L I6, 302 5.0L V8, 351 5.8L V8, and the 460 7.5L V8. Add another quart.
Diesels in this year range call for 10 quarts or 14 quarts depending on year model and displacement. All the 6.9L Diesels and 1993 7.3L Diesels call for 10 quarts. Starting in 1994, they increased the oil capacity on some of the 7.3L to 14 quarts, but not all. You have to pull the VIN number and compare. For 1995 and 1996, all 7.3L Diesels called for 14 quarts.
Now you know.

Maybe you should reconsider. You can never get all the oil out of an engine when doing an oil change. I don't think I have ever put much more than 5-1/4 quarts in a motor, even after warming it up so the oil flows nicely and letting it drain for 1/2 hour with the plug and filter removed. Unless you suspect you have the wrong dipstick in that motor you have probably over filled it. In any event, there isn't any real danger of engine damage with a 1/2 quart extra, but it may result in excessive foaming of the oil as it gets sloshed around by the crank.
