1960 f100 engine

I was given a 1960 f100 or f250, not sure which one it is. It has a straight 6 and 4speed on the floor. The engine needs at least a distributor and manifold/carb.

What are there any engines that will be a bolt in swap, I want to get it running as cheaply as possible and later down the road when I'm done fixing it up I might do a big v8 swap.

If you want to upgrade to a V8,, I'd look for a decent Y-Block 292. With the correct front mount it would be a pretty easy swap.

I'd say stick with the 223 it has better fuel efficiency than the V8's. Ive got one of those in my F350

The engine would be, if stock, the venerable 223c.i. I-6 & performance parts are still obtainable for them.
Contact me about a Stock Intake & Carb. for your Olde Girl, if that's what you wish to acquire for her or I'm able to find the Performance parts as well.

How much would a 223 I6 be worth? I thought it was a 300ci but I really believe it is a earlier I6 and I may play with it a little. And Col I might contact you about performance parts later.

Depending on the condition, Pleanty.
I stated, "If Stock", as I recollect.
Now, is this the one that was found on that property, pulled out of the folage, had all those Pix & questions posted about it?
If so, then it's a 300c.i. I-6.
I can't keep track of Every individual that posts here, especially when they don't post Pix or state they've another additional thread/s on top of the one here.

Contact away, I'll see what I'm able to do for you.

Count the lug nuts. If each wheel has 8 it's an F250...5 is an F-100.

Actually it is supposed to be rebuilt bought it with my 58 rusted out parts truck the owner was reluctant to give it up. It is paintd and looks in good condition just looked at it yesterday and it is a 223 I6. I will open her up later and make sure she is in spec and has all new parts or rebuilt I just think it would be a great motor for a open hood hotrod.

It has 8, so f250.

What's better/different about the 250 vs f100?

The F/M-100 is a 1/2 Ton truck & the F/M-250 is a 3/4 Ton truck, that plus Rim size, Heavier Suspension package, w/ Larger Brakes, If I'm not mistaken, are the only real differences.

I think the Col pretty much covered the differences. In the 48-56 years the wheelbases were longer for the 3/4 ton too...not absolutely sure about the 57-60 models...

Watch the classifieds, Craigslist, etc... those engines were used in an awful lot of old Fords, and you might find one that someone's yanked recently to replace with a V8. Or, if there are any old wrecking yards left near you with stuff from that era, you should at least be able to turn up a manifold and distributor.

If you're friendly with a machinist, it is supposed to be possible to fit a newer distributor (like off a 300 six) to the 223. (I think there was a discussion on fordsix.com about this.)

AFAIK the only current aftermarket intakes are from Clifford and Offenhauser, but if you're patient on eBay, other old-school intakes show up occasionally. As far as headers, Patriot makes some that probably fit (can't be sure from the catalog), as well as Clifford.

Barely ... best I ever got out of my 6 was 16 mpg.

I swapped in a Y-block with a 4bbl carb, lost 1 mpg, and gained a bunch of power. Not to mention Y-blocks have a sound all their own.
